This is probably going to sound insane but I think if his grades were good enough (big if) Harvard could be a good place to actually do this. Harvard Law is notorious for grade inflation and not flunking people. The theory is that if you're good enough to get in, you deserve to stay. That's actually pretty common amongst top law schools. Rule of thumb - the higher ranked a law school is, the less aggressively they are in weeding people out. So I could see Harvard as the kind of place that would cut some slack on both the academic and athletic ends to make it work. Of course, no athletic scholarships is another big barrier.
I agree he probably puts his law school plans on hold.
Edit: The more I think about it, given the cost of law school tuition these days there is a pretty big incentive to make it work, so I could see him trying it, as difficult a juggling act as it would be.
