Not too much in this article about Mayer, you haven’t already seen here, but I didn’t realize he only shot 32% from 3. Also a blurb here about Kofi and the draft. SI ranks Kofi 100th as a draft prospect. Usually SI is completely irrelevant but they’re not far off the other ranking services here.

Assuming Kofi is still a target for the Bulls, guess we'll see.

Geesh ... Didn't think he'd fall that far ... They started Parker Braun last year, YIKES ...
They're a mid-major who won 21 games last year and played in the NIT. He will likely see the court for significant minutes day 1. Guess I don't get the hate for this move lol. Best of luck to the kid.

(He also gets to live in Cali... decent deal there.)

I think surprise is the better description than hate at least for me.

Edit: Also, agreed....best of luck. Seems like a great kid with outstanding work ethic.

Hate seems kinda strong. I wouldn't have even said shock. Maybe mild surprise?

EDIT: FloridaMan beat me.

That's fair enough, but important to remember that Podz was a covid-year kid who the staff hadn't even seen in person before he got to campus. Had never played against high-level competition before arriving at Illinois. Not a shock to me that this was quite a bit above his level.

No matter how things turned out, it will always give me a good feeling to get a Mr. Wisconsin basketball out of that state. Good luck Podz!

Nope... nothing new from me either. But when someone does break some good/bad news, I'd like to be able to swiftly find the post and not have to worry about essentially scrolling through a 5th grader's camera roll full of worn-out GIFs and unfunny material.
You'll be able to find that easily because the gifs will likely abruptly stop (or greatly reduce in number) as we all shift to begging the insiders for more details.

I don't know anything about his reputation as a guy to play for, but I always thought Herb Sendek got a raw deal at NC State. They made a huge mistake firing him for Sidney Lowe, were perhaps a bit better under Mark Gottfried, but basically Sendek had them consistently at a pretty decent level considering what they're up against.

I hope it works out for Podz playing for him.

If @illini0440 sandwiches his next major tidbit in between two completely irrelevant gifs I'll name my next child, boy or girl, Tyler, in his honor.
You managed to squeeze several excellent Loyalty memes and tropes into a single sentence. Bravo!

Once again... Santa Clara is a solid mid-major who competed well with the Zags and St. Mary's this year. It's not like he's going to Eastern Illinois lol
Really, did people think he was going to go to Duke or something? He probably could have gone to a P5 school, but may have ended up in same situation as at Illinois. Goes to a solid mid-major with a path to playing time in a conference that has seemingly moved past being a one-bid league. I think it is a good landing spot for him.

The Galloping Ghost

Washington, DC
This post seemed to get skipped by most.
The thing about Matthew Mayer is we've talked about him several days this week. There's really not much else to say. Yes, he's an intriguing player. Yes, it appears we've contacted him. Yes, BU recruited him at OSU so there's at least a bit of an in. Unfortunately, there have been some rumblings that UNC might be leading, though who knows how real those are. Ultimately, till he gets his evaluation from the NBA, he's not leaving the draft. The deadline to withdraw is June 13th, so we could have over a month before he, and any other player currently in the draft, become options.

We're stuck in a holding pattern and just trying to gif our way through it.
