That is terrible news. Way too young and a wakeup call to someone my age who was at school the same time and lived in the same dorm at least one of Marc's years at Illinois. I had a friend in that dorm who was handicapped and things didn't always come easy, but Marc always was so nice, would eat meals together and ask about her classes and always lifted her spirits up, just the most sincere, thoughtful person.

I always heard Marc played really well in practice at Illinois and it never translated to the games for whatever reason. He was a heck of a high school player at Aurora Christian and part of a smaller Illini recruiting class I think with Robert Bennett because of the unfair/BS fallout from Bruce Pearl and Iowa.

I did not know Marc had cancer or had gone on to such a great coaching career. His dad is a coaching legend in Aurora whose school gym is named after. If there's anything to help through news like this, I can't think of a family more at peace that Marc has made it home now.

His is probably one of the most interesting stories of any former Illini. Decided that he wanted to compete in world strongman competition and became one of the greatest in the U.S. If interested, you should read up on his life after Illinois. It's really remarkable. And what a statement he made to those around him as he faced certain death. A great man and a great family.

Wow, that's heartbreaking. I was reading some of the tweets from former players, coaches and others in the Ft Wayne area and I started tearing up - what a special person he was

Sad news indeed - I overlapped with Marc at school as well - he was a good guy and a workout warrier for sure. I hadn't followed him since college, but it's heartwarming to see the impact he's had in the Ft. Wayne community and others and how many lives he touched

RIP. I always remember when he was inserted into a game the announcers would eventually get around saying: "He's the son of a coach."

This is very sad news indeed. The Big 10 Network did a wonderful segment on Marc earlier this year. I highly recommend watching it if you haven't seen it yet.
