NO. 9 ILLINOIS FIGHTING ILLINI

The Class: Skyy Clark, Jayden Epps, Ty Rodgers and Sencire Harris

Bossi’s analysis:
Fans of the Illini and Brad Underwood have to love the pieces that they’ve added to their backcourt — and how fast they’ll be able to play. A five-star prospect before a knee injury cost him the summer of 2021 and a large chunk of his senior season, Clark was a late addition after decommitting from Kentucky and is a creative scorer off the bounce.

Speaking of guards who can score, Epps’ ability to generate one on one offense and play either the one or the two allowed him to ascend into the national top 50 as a senior. In Rodgers, Illinois has a third top 50 prospect who is a high-energy combo forward that can really pass, rebound and defend multiple positions. Rounding out the class is Harris; they have another guard who can generate one on one offense that adds length to their backcourt.

Brock Harding is a PG here the in the Quad Cities from Moline High School. He holds some good Mid Major offers as of now, but seems to continue to gain steam through the AAU Circuit. Is our staff interested in him at all? Seems to be very Curbeloesq, but better shooter IMO.
Count me as interested. But in checking he is 6' and 155 lbs. Remembering when I was that size as a HS soph and decided I would rather not try to guard Clyde Frazier...therefore pursuing a collegiate career in another sport. Simply has to have elite, elite athleticism to be what I see the Illini needing to be successful in B1G and FF competition. If he has the mental aspects, he is likely a perfect fit for MVC play.

I'd agree. I think he'd be a good fit for a team like the ISU Redbirds, but I doubt the Illini are recruiting him at this point. They're fishing in larger waters these days. (Also see: Ty Pence.)

Wonder what the backup plan is if they don’t get Nance?

We have, by far, the best record in the Big Ten over the last three seasons, and we are the CURRENT Big Ten champions. It’s not to soon for our fans to have a bit of swagger, and it’s WAY past time for our fans to stop waiting for the other shoe to drop. :)

He's a really flashy point guard. High basketball IQ, team player, great passer. But he lacks size and does not make up for it with supreme athleticism. I believe a Power 6 school will eventually offer, but I don't think it'll be Illinois, and as much as it pains me as a Moline alum, I hope it's not Illinois. If he doesn't get that Power 6 offer, a MVC-level school is going to get a hell of a player.
