Decatur
I will agree to put one in Decatur if we EVER get a talented player out of that city. I grew up there. My memory isn't perfect but I can't remember any and that goes back to the days of Lakeview HS. Yeah, that says a lot (closed in '82).
Only B1G from Decatur was Dave Scholz and Lew Jackson at Purdue... Hasn't been any talent here for years..

I agree with this - his role won't allow him to match Giorgi's numbers next season as a freshman, but we don' want/need him to

He seems very comfortable in the high pick and roll and with his size and length, if he just rebounds, gets his points down low and passes out of the pick and roll well, he will be a high value contributor - if he develops and outside shot, he will be a star down the road. He also appears to have the right mentality and team mindset which is a huge part of long term success
I'm excited. I love that we're back in a place where we can take developmental bigs and give them a year or two to bulk up and develop.

Musselman is killing it at Arkansas and before that at Nevada. I can't believe nobody tried to pull him out of Arkansas

2022 openings

By 21 the only schools there that would be an upgrade from Arkansas were Nova and Duke.

Duke was always going with a Duke guy (hand picked by K) and Nova seemed hand picked by Wright.

my birthday is also in late august (class cutoff was sept 1) so i technically graduated high school and even started college classes before i turned 18. that was 20 years ago but math still checks out depending on the class cutoff date.
I turned 18 on Sept. 13, 1970 while a freshman at UIUC. A friend of mine the same age started at UIUC a year earlier skipping his senior HS year, so at least back then a HS diploma was not necessarily required (course my friend was a genius*), nor did you have to turn 18 by sept 1, maybe the rules have changed?

rules for scholarship athletes is going to be different of course.

*my friend got a chemistry MS at UIUC in 1976 but burned out in the process and joined the Navy, never going past a Masters, while I ended up with a PhD in chemistry, genius isn't everything, but I was sure jealous that he got to skip his HS senior year LOL still consider that a wasted year, there were no AP classes back then

Six righter from Decatur he was a top scorer after the slush fund scandal. I was there! Dave Scholz was a mainstay for three years…

ESPN says "Perrin is Illinois' 12th scholarship player, and is expected to be the final addition to the roster this summer." So we are going to leave the last scholarship open and leave more flexibility for 2023?
Midyear transfer.

Can see someone like him replacing Self when he hangs it up (assuming the NCAA does nothing to KU). Not to nit pick but Duke wasn't really an opening. UNC was pretty much predestined as well. LSU, Arizona, and Louisville had some very big question marks.

The rules have not changed. There is no age requirement, but you do need a high school diploma. If you graduate early, you've received the high school diploma and are qualified to start your undergrad studies.

Yes, agreed. That's also what I was addressing in my response, above. The annual influx of talent (large quantities of new players) is pretty much a necessity in today's game. I'd say our reload is is probably guaranteed to be Top 10 or Top 12 ---- but this is what seems to happen every year at UNC, Duke and KY.

And given we're ranked only 25th in one of the early polls, I'm speculating that many other schools have done the same....hence my list.
The 25 ranking is probably underrated. By December, I expect Illinois to be ranked much higher than that.

Does anybody know where we stand relative to Scharnowski? Have we offered? Any visits scheduled? He would be a great start for class of '23.

I believe we are looking at possibly a commitment from Amani Hansberry if I’m understanding the tea leaves correctly. Just visited. Seems to be a higher caliber player than Drew. But we also just took our last ‘22 recruit a couple days ago, so a lot of time for things to change.
