You guys really don't know a damn thing about BL!!! Unless I got my wires crossed on this one I think you better go back and look at some videos on BL
Let’s see, he’s played 24 mins total last season. Lots of video to see. Maybe I missed the video from practice.

The more arc, the less angle into the rim, and the literally bigger the rim gets. Too much arc and you have to shoot the ball too much “further” which makes it more difficult. But generally a bit of arc is good IMO and it’s not about feathery touch.
With all due respect his shot does not look any different from the young man who went 25% from 3 point range last year in my opinion. There's a reason Curbelo transferred and Hawkins sat the bench in the 1st half against Houston. they were a combined 1 of 13 and kept shooting! Coach Underwood's biggest mistake we were in the game he put Coleman back in with 4 and a 1/2 minutes left to go and we were out scored 15 to nothing and lost by 20 Coleman shot has not changed it's a disappointment.

Come on now! he hit 70%! Isn't that better than 25%?

He seems more comfortable to me..there are no bad things to be said for putting in the work...I'm on the train...expect our coaches to be refining/simplifying his stroke and hopefully it shows...

I don’t think his shot was ever broken, just his confidence. They left him alone and he had time to think about missing. I feel like he thinks too much out there. He plays his best when he is reacting.
He was on a short leash last year. I think it will be a bit longer early this year, but he’s going to be pushed by the other guys. If he can get some swagger, this could be his breakout. He’s just gotta get out of his own way.

I don't think Hawkins will be a major contributor this season. Hope I'm wrong, though. What we need to keep in mind is patience, esp. in the early going; these guys haven't played together before. They need time to gel (esp. with a freshman PG).

How did Calapari win his only NC at Kentucky. He had a loaded class of Freshmen (illini Check) He had one or two veterans (Illini Check) He had incredible talent (Illini Check). This should be Brad's best team at Illinois by FAR. P.S. Hawkins is being tauted as a First Round NBA Pick. Hmmmm. Who knows more the NBA Mock Drafts or you ?

Well they did take Ayo in the second round.

The difference of this years team is we are not dependent on One or Two Super Stars. Every position is capable of having a Big Game.
We have 2 proven players, neither of which have been the clear #1 option in an offense. A freshman PG and a lot of questions in the front court. A group of guys that have never played together.

I think we will have a really good team and fun season. But let’s keep this in perspective…

We will have a lot of bumps in the road. And we had a lot of those the last 2 years and STILL had great seasons.

The idea that we have like 7 guys who can go 1on1 and score, etc, etc. I sincerely hope you’re right!! But probably not…

How quickly are we going to forget that we were a 1 seed with 2 All Americans just 2 years ago??

Where can I cash these Illini Checks?

I agree that this should be BU’s best team, but not sure what your point is with the rest of your post. What does KY’s NC team have to do with this Illini team. By the way, UK’s loaded class consisted of recruits number 1, 3, 6 and 20. Skyy at 32 is the highest of the Illini class. I love this class and excited to see what they can do, but I don’t see any of them being drafted #1 next year like Davis nor #2 as MKG was. Not to mention that I believe KY the year before lost in F4 game, so their veterans had tournament success under their belt.

I am more bullish on Hawk than the original poster is, but not anywhere near so as much as the mock draft you cite. I’d guess in the range he’s being listed in these way too early mock drafts, the historic successful prediction rate is probably about 10%. With a quick search, one 2022 WTE mock I found included Shannon at I think 15 and the other had Mayer about 20. I think we know neither was drafted in first round this year.

I'd be happy with "This was Brad's best NCAA tournament team by FAR."

As long as one of those bumps isn’t in St Louis I’ll be good.

Losing to Miznoz almost ruins Christmas.

These early mock drafts are heavily dependent on potential. Does Hawkins have the potential to be a star? absolutely! Does he put it all together? who knows.

Now the real people to trust are the actual NBA GMs that draft these players. JS

I don't pay attention to a lot of mock drafts, but I'll never forget the time we had a kid that started just one game and only averaged 8 minutes a game his freshman year, and some of the mocks listed him as a lottery pick the next year...and then he was.
