So wild to realize that going forward UCLA will be on the schedule every year.

From the Fighting Illini sports web site. I don't think it has been updated for a while. No pictures of the new players and Perrin is not listed yet. Also, since it appears to not have been updated for a while weights might not be accurate and uniform numbers may change. I did not realize Mayer is 6'9". Also, bonus, how many times will Mayer be misspelled as Meyer (see Weber, Giorgi and some others I can't remember offhand)?

Here is a funny question no one saw coming in March 2021: Who has the better year with their new team Ace or Belo?
If both are finally healthy then i would tend to think Belo would have the better season ..................AM missed the whole season and will have a new head coach to adjust to , as belo will probably have the ball in his hands most of the time on offense and he should be a leader in both assists and turnovers for SJ......

it will be interesting to see both perform and I hope both stay healthy and enjoy their time on the court..............

Well, Ace doesn't have much of a team to work with off the bat, as LSU had to replace its entire roster. Belo has the better shot at quick success, it seems, but I know nothing about St. John's.

I hope they both have strong seasons. It's unfortunate that they didn't stay and mature within our program. Wish them nothing but the best.

The Illini should play to Ty's strengths and have him as the pick setter who can then roll to the hoop and finish.
It is kind of a waste to use Ty as the screen as that does not necessarily require a lot of passing/distributing skills even though he can definitely choose to pass when he rolls to the basket.

I like their program, Cronin is a great coach. Apart from the pain of travelling, it will be fun to add a perennial top 30ish program to the fold. Should be some fun battles. USC is also promising with Enfield getting some great recruits as of late.

I think it's great that BU and TA bring in someone like this as an example of hard work and to reinforce the team first attitude.

I had to look up Max Strus' bio - pretty impressive rise from where he was in HS. While I know that it mostly shows that I don't pay attention that closely, what does it say about DePaul and the Big East Conference that I had literally never heard of this guy before this video/looking him up?

Brad's been talking too much to Jimmy Boeheim. Pretty much following the Syracuse model with no tough road or home games.
We just finished up a home and home with Arizona and faced duke twice in the span of 3 years (yes I know they weren't that good one year). I believe we also faced Baylor the year they won it all. How many high major games do you want us to play? Yeah we have some quad 4 games like everyone else but I don't think it's fair to say no tough road or home games.

The short roll al a draymond green would be an easy way to unlock his playmaking

THIS YEAR!! Didn't say we didn't schedule some good games, but they're all "neutral". Boeheim follows that same model.

UCLA in Vegas, Baylor or Virginia in Vegas all 3 are preseason ranked. Texas at the Garden in NY who are also pre season ranked and Missouri in the braging rights game is St. Louis, usually always a dogfight. I think the schedule reflects the status of this years team wirh 8 newcomers to the roster. Some easy games to build cohesiveness and trust. Then some punch in the mouth ones to test your mettle and guage where you are. The B1G is going to be a grind as always, you want to build confidence and toughness as the season progresses not crush in the 1st 6 non confence games. Could not agree more with IlliniShelt's post. I think the scheduled matches up perfectly with what the coaches want the team to be when the B1G games are the only ones on the remaining portion of the schedule.

Max Straus is one of those players that has really surprised me that he made the NBA, but he clearly belongs. Great words from him and he truly has grinded it out to make and stay in the NBA. For those who aren't the uber athletes or prospects watch the Jeremy Lin documentary. Very competitive, lonely/heartbreaking road to that level.

I saw Max Straus against the Illini in 2017, made 15 pts on 33% shooting. Kipper had 16 pts on 55% and Mark Smith (Freshmen, 3rd college game) had 21 pts on 40% shooting. I would had said those two and others were better pro prospects. But here you have Straus being a rotational player on a top NBA team.
