When did this become a Houston Astros thread?

Howard was good for our program his senior year. I think he was instrumental in getting players to buy in as a walk on.

However as an assistant here from my perspective he was not a good fit and was part of the problem under Weber

It will be interesting why he left

I never remember Snacks being a walk-on. I thought he was always a scholarship player.

He was a scholarship recruit by Lon Kruger. Redshirted as a freshman? Some kind of medical issue? I think Self was not planning on bringing him back?

Sorry if I got his walk-on vs scholarship status wrong. he did have a very limited playing role here but was well respected by the team during his college days

Some of the comments above are uncalled for. Howard is a proven top recruiter, who had a hand in bringing many McD AAs to KU and UT. Plus, he is an alum and a former AC who did good work here.
Only certain Illini fans think Howard was a "proven top recruiter". Townsend was the coach that brought in top talent at KU. If you think Howard did good work at Illinois, you don't know much about the guy. His behavior as an assistant coach should have gotten him fired.

Snacks bolstered (heavy-lifted?) Weber's recruiting efforts for a time here. We were ready to make him HCIW at the time. Remember the Orange lowrider pic that circulated here? I don't like speaking against the character of a former staff who left on good terms.

I thought that 24 hr cascade of BP, JB, and DJ came shortly after Jerrance was hired and credited in part to that.

Seriously? None of these guys were that good and they were all saddled with Weber's personality in the closing area.

How did Price do at his next stop?
I can't find anything on Jay after UofI, basketball or otherwise. Impressive.
[Or I'm having a bad Google day.]

He was the girls basketball coach at St. Thomas More starting in 2014 LINK
Left that job in 2016 LINK
Jay is now living his best Michael Scott life as a regional sales manager at Scotwood Industries in the KC area. LINK

Not sure when he stopped coaching college, but he was the maitre d at Houlihans for a while. I walked in and made idle chit chat with him, and then he awkwardly showed us to our table. I assumed he was waiting for someone important, but it turned out he worked there. Is he still coaching the girls team at St. Thomas More?

I never said they were great recruiters, but Jay Price was a better coach than he was given credit for. Jay made a decision concerning his career. Sometimes a bad experience makes a person evaluate what they want to do in life.

I hit a drive right over Jay's head back in the day at an Illini Rebounders scramble. He was really nice about it as I apologized. I liked that guy after thinking I almost injured him.
