Watching this game's highlights and the play of Randle always brings me back to wondering if the 2005 championship game would have turned out different with Randle not being injured and had him playing at the level of this game ....

What ifs are what has driven me crazy with the Illini program , but that drive was a short one as I have been crazy about the Illini teams for over 65 years now.....I really really have been........

Should be no surprise as WCIA and Tom Schoendienst started broadcasting a few Illini games for the first time around 1955. Govoner Vaughn and Manny Jackson arrived in 1956 and entered the starting lineup as sophs for the 1957-58 season. There may even be a few Illini fans still around who saw the Whiz Kids play!! Those games were sponsored by Chesty Potato Chips...."the food its fun to eat!!"

Keep watching 47 as you are the same age as me and I have been watching the Illini since they first game on wcia. That would be when we were 8 years old.

I would like to know if any poster ever saw the Whiz Kids play? Likely to be around 90 or older but possible. It would have to have been in person...and back then, that was a really tough ticket to get your hands on....especially for a kid.

It was the right move - Lou was basically a .500 coach in conference play by that point; Kruger was a pretty clear upgrade

He certainly had flashes of greatness. Any many times left me frustrated. Incredible athlete with all the tools.

Just one of many reasons I temper my optimism until they take the court.

Not sure but I am certain it was not Bogie Rodman who never played for the Illini. But Bogie Redmon did.

But I have a trivia question also. Name the poster on this board who played for two high school coaches....one who played for the legendary Virgil Fletcher and the other who played for the legendary Ernie Eveland. Those two coaches are...arguably...the most accomplished high school coaches who did more with less over decades than any others. One of the two proteges went on to coach a team that was rated as the top team in Illinois for most of the season before losing in the quarter-finals to a team they had easily beaten that season.
