Arguing about it, particularly against the resident experts here, really isn't going to win any hearts or minds.

Jeremiah Fears is considering the Illini, including visiting. So it really doesn't matter why his brother isn't here, if his family was a dealbreaker (in either direction) he would presumably not be wasting the time. If he doesn't end up here, the staff has shown that they can find GREAT plan B talent.

Actually, it is.

First, offer lists don't always mean they're committable. You really believe that he picked EMU over Michigan?

Second, lots of people were saying the same thing about Bates that you are saying about Fears. "No way you pass on a guy with that much talent." Yet, people did.

Have no idea how interested staff is, but he's coming for a visit so there's something there from both sides.

And, FWLIW, people often believe that getting one sibling gives you an angle for the next, but it just doesn't seem to hold much truth at the top 50 level. Seems like far more exceptions that actual times it's happened.

Far more interested am I in the second CB getting dropped by Rivals for AH than Michigan recruiting. Getting Amani to suit up for the Illini is a critical part of future seasons. From what I see on film and read about him, he can be a big part of any team. Really want to see him play against B1G competition wearing orange and blue....and winning about 90%+.

But even far more important is that I live long enough to see him get a U of I degree to compliment his 2-4 B1G Championship rings!!

It's the whole promising a certain role that would be a hangup. He has plenty of intangibles and connections to want him on your team. There is a reason he is #40 in the country.
