Marching Illini is stricken by covid. Won't march tomorrow but will play from stands (don't have the bodies to make the formations work). Any word on casualties with the players?
I caught this latest wave of covid a couple of weeks back. Had me out for 6 days. It was my first time getting it, and needless to say, this strain is very contagious. Symptoms were fairly mild for the most part, though. Hope the team has evaded it.

I'm just so excited football season is here. Not even just the Illini. Going to the game today with my son and his youth football team. His season kicks off tomorrow and I can't wait. NFL in a couple weeks. More college games next weekend. Fall and football season are definitely favorite time of the year.

We're in CU for a wedding tonight and staying at Hyatt Place. Safe to say the football team is staying here tonight, too. For whoever was asking if they were still doing the hotel thing this year

Do all of the "odd" angles in this pic mess with anyone else's OCD? The combination of main flooring to the carpet squares, to the staircase, to the ceiling tiles - I'd have to avoid this like the plague.

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. — One thing that was unmistakable for the Illinois wide receivers was the confidence of their new quarterback, Tommy DeVito.
Isaiah Williams referenced his swagger on the first day of spring practice, while DeVito also told reporters during his introductory press conference that the word scared — he calls it the “s-word” — is not in his vocabulary.

“Tommy brings a swag to the team for sure,” receiver Pat Bryant said. “He just makes us go out and be ourselves.”
DeVito can’t pinpoint the source, but that confidence is one of the things that won him the Illini’s starting quarterback job, one that gives him a fresh start heading into his final college season.

“I don’t really notice it; people kind of just mention it to me,” DeVito said. “I guess it’s kind of just how I am.”
He comes to Champaign after an up-and-down time at Syracuse where he entered as a four-star recruit, he’s still the highest-ranked recruit Orange coach Dino Babers has signed during his tenure, and ended with him entering the transfer portal after losing the starting job during the 2021 season.

BB has a proven track record....for those that think we are underachieving on the recruiting trail look at his first full class in 2022. The two lowest recruits have a 0.8304 rating. One of those guys is getting a ton of buzz....Matthew Bailey

I don't think anyone is expecting miracles after such a long period hanging around the basement. He's going to get plenty of time to build it the way he wants to, and he showed a lot of improvement right off the bat. The portal should make it easier in some ways for a coach looking to rebuild.

I love college football, but I didn't watch as many Illinois games during Lovie's tenure. Zook put some incredible athletes on the field, and even though he was a pretty lousy game coach, I enjoyed watching the talent on the field. BB is getting my interest back. I expect it to take a while to build some momentum before they can compete in the upper half, or have the kind of QB play you need today, but I think he's a terrific fit here.

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. — A grade school Julian Pearl remembers following around his older brothers throughout the summer.
Tayvion Johnson and Avery Pearl Jr. would take him to basketball and football camps and workouts throughout the day while their mother was at work, showing Pearl the ropes as he grew as a football and basketball player in Danville.

“I’m basically shadowing them all day,” Pearl said. “Just learning work ethic and passion for the game from them.” Johnson was a future college basketball player while Avery was a future college offensive lineman.

“(Avery) was me before I was me,” Pearl said.
Pearl took those traits and has become the starting left tackle for the Illini and the one responsible for protecting the quarterback’s blindside. He’s played in 19 games and started in 15 over the past two seasons and developed into a 2023 NFL Draft offensive line prospect with his combination of size and athleticism.

For anyone watching College Gameday right now, has Kirk Herbstreit had Botox? He looks different. And I love College Gameday, but sick of them focusing on Alabama, Clemson, Georgia, Ohio St, USC, Notre Dame. Why not expand to other teams, and do segments on the underdogs? Why not visit Champaign for Week Zero instead of just being in studio? I bleed Orange and Blue, so would love to have that exposure someday.

I had to really take a good look to tell if it was really him! He looks a lot older. Must of been rough off-season! :p🤣

lol. As a recovering mild-OCD sufferer, I have to chuckle. 30 years ago it would have bothered me. Now in my 50s, to quote David St. Hubbins in Spinal Tap: "I'm sure I'd feel much worse if I weren't so heavily sedated." :ROFLMAO:

Excited to watch the boys this afternoon on BTN. ILL- !!!!!!!!!! (forgive me if I got the new orange Pantone shade wrong)

Eh, a three point swing isn't that crazy, but clearly the money is coming in on our side. We were 7-4-1 ATS last year, and ESPN.com had us covering as the pick of the week for week zero. The degenerate community seems to be fond of us.
We have been a degenerate football program. Degenerates love other degenerates.

You should check out the BBall recruiting pages if you want to see some troublesome angles...
