giving up 13 to start the game is a tough thing to do against another FBS team
There is understandably a lot of veneration of Craig Bohl because of what he accomplished at NDSU and his general image and reputation as a rumpled no-nonsense coach's coach.

The reality though is that his Wyoming teams have never been particularly scary, weren't as good as they should have been when they had Josh Allen, and are now facing a season opening true road game in which they're replacing most of their team.

If we're a bowl team and play like it this is probably a blowout. No reason to freak out in week zero if it's not, but there's a reason that line is traveling our way.

It would be surprising if Wyoming winds up being a team like UTSA was (and crystal clearly had the potential to be from the start) last season. For once we're playing a cupcake that isn't at a generational high point for their program, new territory for us I know.

We're in CU for a wedding tonight and staying at Hyatt Place. Safe to say the football team is staying here tonight, too. For whoever was asking if they were still doing the hotel thing this year

Marching Illini is stricken by covid. Won't march tomorrow but will play from stands (don't have the bodies to make the formations work). Any word on casualties with the players?

Thank God they arent running the Monken option or the old fashioned Wishbone Option, nor the Hal Mumme / Leach Air Raid.
Both are somewhat gimmicky offenses that could cause almost any team head aches , especially in game 1.

When you win those games by 24, you say
" yea, they run that gimmicky offense"
and,
when they beat you by 3, you say
" yea, they run that gimmicky offense"

I don't think they have much interaction with each so I don't see why it would be an issue.

I know nothing of marching bands but I would imagine that the absence of members impacts the timing required in their close order drills. If a particular on-field design requires 107 bodies spread across various instruments and on a given day you have only 80 of those bodies, you have an issue. The formation that is the outline of the state of Illinois could end up looking like Iowa.

Edit: Oops, perhaps you meant that the band and the team don't interact. Probably true, but if the infection has hit the band I would assume that it has hit other areas of campus.

Hope like heck you are right, and I want to believe you are. BUT, we have made a habit of making average teams look really, really good. Hopeful those days are behind us, I really, really am...

Might as well cancel the whole darn game! (full disclosure: member, Marching Illini - '72 to '77. And yes, if you do the math, that is 5 seasons.)
There is no game without the best band in the land!!

SO our crew arrived in CU from Rockford at 5:00, had a great dinner at Billy Barooz, and is getting primed for game day. I showed them all the Danny Devito Gifs, and we’re all dying laughing. It’s a fun time to be an Illini, when it’s the beginning of the season, and the potential is unlimited… :illinois: -L-L

Well yeah WE have been very bad, and may prove to be this year.

I've just sensed a level of trepidation about Wyoming that they haven't really earned.

It was a bummer to lose to UTSA, especially the way we did it, the week after the positive Nebraska surprise. But anyone who cared to understand knew that we'd lost to a likely outstanding team. This is not gonna be a double digit win Wyoming team, and very well might not be a bowling Wyoming team.
