I dunno. Northwestern, Purdue, and Indiana all seem pretty equitable to me.therein lies the rub

I mean we have all known Fleck was kinda shady and that eventually he would rub some kids the wrong way. I think both Minnesota and Fleck would be ready for this situation.
Don’t know what is true and what isn’t, but not a good look for PJ in in Minnesota.
In Minnesota, when something is "different" that usually means "bad".

The Athletic's proposal where we end up with those three actually makes a lot of sense in terms of equity, when you consider the essential rivalries they have to protect. The four schools in the west are a lock to be paired up together. You are going to have UM-MSU and UM-OSU locked in. Out of fairness to UM, you really have to pair up OSU-PSU, which is really the next biggest rivalry for OSU at this point. And then once again out of fairness to UM and OSU you are going to pair up MSU-PSU, which is a sorta rivalry but it does have a trophy. You throw the cupcake opponents in the East to those schools, and what is left? Us in the middle with IU, PU, & NU.I dunno. Northwestern, Purdue, and Indiana all seem pretty equitable to me.

You shouldn't say shady unless you have evidence. In any event, what we all actually do know is that we can listen to Fleck no more than 10 minutes at a time. Hearing him mic'ed up at a practice revealed he spouted coaching platitudes ad nauseum.I mean we have all known Fleck was kinda shady and that eventually he would rub some kids the wrong way. I understand your points, but I don’t think a fair and balanced league is the end goal. I think it’s to get as many teams as possible into the CFP. Pairing up all the top schools against each other isn’t the path to get to that goal. It will be interesting to watch the process play out, because what’s in the conference’s overall best interests is not the same as what’s in each individual school’s best interests. The Athletic's proposal where we end up with those three actually makes a lot of sense in terms of equity, when you consider the essential rivalries they have to protect. The one school that would have a legitimate gripe may be MSU, who may have the toughest three opponents if NU is having a good year. But MSU is 40-20 against them all time, 8-4 against them since 2008, and have won 3 in a row against them. That plus their recent success against UM probably is justification to tell them to suck it up.
You end up with three fairly competitive pods, which should make for good football, and you can still feel fairly certain that the best teams will be able to rise to the top since 5 out of pod games should ensure you aren't likely to have a mediocre 7-1 Purdue team that is only in the championship because it beat us, IU, and NU.
Now will you ever have 8-0 OSU vs. 8-0 PSU in the championship game to go to the CFP? No. But I think that is really the only thing you are sacrificing with this set up. I think having that guaranteed primetime game every year though is a good consolation prize.
