All aboard the hype train!

The starting 5 (SC TSJ RJ MM CH) will all be in the NBA next season and this team will go 32-0 and win that National Championship.

In all honesty, I love how much POTENTIAL this team has. I love the depth. A lot of teams have 1 or 2 superstars to rely on but this team could have different ones each game. That also means we could have all our players go off or none.

I think a lot of our success this season lies on the coaches. Can Brad adjust to opposing teams quick enough? With so many buttons to push, can he push the right ones at the right time? I feel much more confident that we have a team that plays BU's style of basketball! I just still think about the Loyola game way too often.

I don't think making the sweet 16 AND winning a B1G regular season championship is unreasonable for this team.
All five of them will be in the NBA? Damn. That's disappointing ;)

Sounds like Dickie V will be back in business this season. Not my favorite announcer, but admire his passion for the game and his transparency and perseverance in his battle to overcome cancer.

Good to see Dickie V on the road to recovery, regardless of how you feel about him as an announcer (particularly in the last couple of decades) there is no doubt he had a large part in the growth of college basketball popularity and has done a lot for the sport

I think he's obnoxious in a mostly (but not entirely) good way. My biggest issue with him has been home much of a Duke/UNC shill he is most of the time.

I really hate to be that guy, but our student section is relatively pretty small compared to other arenas. I really wish that the ENTIRE lower bowl was for students, and I know that there are boosters and alumnus that pay premium to get those tickets on the other side of the lower bowl (probably including some people in here), but it really would be a better home court if the entire bowl was students.

It would be completely possible to almost do this to 75%. Leave the top 5-6 rows of the lower level to the big donors. Then move there remaining donors up to the 120 level seats then move everyone else up.. Will we lose donors? I think not... Season tickets are to good of a value to turn down and a lot of those people never show anyway.

Agreed. The biggest players in the NCAA basketball explosion across the country (starting around 1980) were:

* ESPN (in particular with their brainchild of taking CBS' scraps and deciding to provide live coverage of 100% of all March Madness)
* Dickie V becoming the face of college basketball
* The trio of Dick Enberg/Al MaGuire/Billy Packer (who after their initial success, decided to split up among the major network stations)

Sounds good........when times are good. During down years the student section becomes a ghost town. Not worth alienating 40 and 50 year donors for those intermittent good years.

Can’t forget Larry Bird vs Magic (‘79 Final)...especially on this board.

This will never happen. A lot of those donors were very upset about having to move back after the SFC renovations. IMO, if you asked them to move again, yes, you would lose donors. Maybe not as many as before BU, but some people will be mad enough to stop giving. You may be underestimating how petty some of those folks can be.

A lot of them are also giving fairly significant sums of money. It follows that if you make them feel devalued they are not going to want to give that money which I wouldn't call petty.

I don't think I've ever been so excited for an Illini basketball season, and I've seen a great many! However, not everyone agrees that it's going to be a great season for us. This article is a bit strange as he is saying we'll start off strong then fade, while also saying it's going to take some time for them to learn to play together.
