Gonna be a tough match, but no time like the present to get over the hump of beating a ranked team this season!

Not sure if anyone is following my ratings site, but I've added the win/loss record for each team to the page.

Next step will be adding columns for:
- Last result (w/ opponent's ranking and change in ranking)
- Next match (w/ predicted score)

The site should be much more responsive now than it was at first.

OSU sweeps the Illini, 25-10, -23, -23

After a subpar first set, the Illini refused to go away in the second and third sets, battling back in both sets from 24-20 deficits to close the gap to 24-23 each time.

Raina Terry hit well at 0.355, but had 4 service errors. Only 7 total service errors though, so that was an improvement. Nice to see Jessica Nunge come back for a couple plays and a service ace.

Huskers just too loaded. Haven’t dropped a set in last 19 played. Small victories though…we did get them to call 3 timeouts. Jessica Nunge back only for serves. Raina looked great. Just too much talent.

Can someone give me some background... Is this the trend under Tamas (sliding back to volleyball obscurity, poor recruiting) or is it just a bad year?

I think Tamas is a good guy and a nice face for the program, but I'm getting worried he ain't it. And in a loaded B1G, it'll be hard to get back near the front of the pack if he can't turn this around soon.

That's been my view up to this point as well. Shame, because it was electric for a good 10 years or so (to my recollection at least)

As we know from this program and our other programs (BB w/ f'ball, Undy w/ hoops, Tiley w/ tennis, and Small w/ golf), the coach makes all the difference. Whitman will need to make a tough call here soon on letting Tamas go, and I imagine if/when that happens, he'll have scoured the country for IL's next VB coach. Could he poach Pitt's Dan Fisher, knowing the B1G and Pac-12 are the premier VB conferences? What about Marquette's Ryan Theis?

Here's how my system is seeing the B1G right now. Nebraska is a clear #1 in the nation as well - the gap between them and Texas at #2 is about as big as the spread between #3 (Louisville) and #9 (Stanford).

Really wish we could have taken a swing at Jen Flynn Oldenburg before she made it back to OSU. I know shes at her alma mater, but should at least give her a call.

Agreed. Why did she leave Illinois? Did Hambly just not want her? I think she was just coaching some club team when Ohio State went after her so she would have been available when Tamas was hired.

Oldenburg has done a terrific job recruiting. It does not follow that because Oldenburg has recruited better players to tOSU she would have been able to recruit the same players to UIUC. For fear of sounding like a broken record, she recruits to a brand new state of the art facility. Tamas recruits to Huff’s basement for training facilities. All other things being equal, Tamas has a much harder sell. Hambly is a great recruiter, but the college volleyball landscape has changed since he left.
