They definitely are, but different things work for different schools. Given our color combo and the identity we seem to be developing under BB, something classic just seems to fit best.

I think the rule is if you only have 1 school color to go along with white, you get to do black alts. NW has really adopted black so much that it's almost an official school color now. Tenn has done it a bunch, Nebby too. Even Duke BBall every once in a while. I'm sure there are tons more, these are just the ones that popped into my head immediately.

Agreed. If one of your prime colors is navy blue, black will never be in the equation for you. Your neutral third options become gray and white.
I think it’s interesting that BU mentioned he was a market major in a recent interview. We know he wants to build a brand and something classic/simple best for building to help with identification. As a marketing person I bet he sees how hyped up people get by alternates. But that’s probably walking before we can crawl from a brand building perspective.

Those are fine aesthetically, but why would you ever not wear the classic unique Tennessee uniforms on Rocky Top? It messes with one of the iconic environments in all of sports, thumbs down.
But the thing that's really lame and off-trend now is the mix-and-match three color helmet/jersey/pants combos, with the whole twitter fire emoji uniform announcement culture surrounding them. It's absolute boomer cringe nowadays.

We have the same colors...but we don't use blue leaving us orange and white...

That's fine, but the orange-orange-white looks rough. I'd rather we wear Blue-Orange-White or White-Orange-White if we want to focus on orange jerseys. Hell, even an orange out would look better than what the Bears trotted out today.
I also don't think anyone other than a few on this board think we look like Syracuse. Outside of this season, no one outside of upstate New York is thinking about Syracuse football.

That's not the monstrosity the Bears were wearing today, and I don't have high hopes for the modern Illini take given that Nike makes both NFL jerseys and ours. I've been proven wrong before but OP used today's Bears as their preference. Those uniforms look awful and I say that as a lifelong Bears fan.
