I think you will probably see a dip next year as we lose A LOT of production and continue building depth….but after next year we should be good on depth and then we can expect to keep having years similar to this one.
Alot of talk last year about all the talent we were losing as well. Super seniors mostly. O-line, LB, and secondary. The team/coaches did a great job in replacing and coaching up. Here's hoping for continued success in the portal and devo keeps us pleasantly surprised. We could use a big time safety transfer for sure losing Sydney and Kendall. Will it be a while before transfer QB dominoes start falling? I cant remember when transfer season gets ramped up.

It’ll be a little bit before the QB market really ramps up. As always they know a lot of times who will enter the portal before they actually do. They also really like the Miami(OH) QB that just entered.

2 years remaining for him. Would be a nice pickup. Similar situation as DeVito. Gonna go check out some highlights!

Question for someone in the know. What is really going on with Josh McCray? Was he that seriously injured? Will he be back next year? transfer? It seemed strange that he only got in for a play or two down the stretch. I like Reggie Love, but he is no Chase Brown and we will need someone who can get the tough yards inside next year.

He’s hurt? Pretty simple

meniscus surgery was original issue - it takes at least 8 weeks or more to recover & play

then he might have had a foot/ankle issue or just had a sore knee still . he might be okay for Bowl game , but certainly for spring practice

Does the added year for COVID still apply to this year's seniors?
Yes, it should. Everyone who was on a roster in 2020 got an extra year of “eligibility”. That doesn’t mean a scholarship as I understand it. I think where it gets fuzzy is if a player was hurt. I don’t think they can redshirt AND get an extra covid year the same year.

Any idea what season tickets might cost for next year?

I'm not talking top of the line seats, but better than just in the stadium.

Correct. I understand this to be accurate.

As such, the definition of "senior" on the current roster requires player-by-player analysis. In looking at the Illinois roster on ESPN.com, they seem to have done a pretty good job of defining each player's true eligibility. However, I still recommend researching each player, individually. Those who started in their college careers in 2017 could theoretically still be eligible in 2023 under certain circumstances (example below):

2017 Redshirt
2018 Medical waiver (due to injury)
2019 Year 1 - FR
2020 Free Covid year
2021 Year 2 - SO
2022 Year 3 - JR
2023 Year 4 - SR

Wow, that’s one more year then JCL 😂. If someone came in at 19 they could be almost 26 when done!

A bit pessimistic but I’m gonna put the my own o/u at 5.5 wins.

There are a lot of unknowns with our players and with other teams considering Nebraska and Wisky (maybe IU??) will have new coaches and you never know how a team will respond in year 1 of a coaching change.

I think 6-6 is reasonable and could be better if things go our way (win 2 road games against Iowa/Purdue/Minny/Kansas) and/or hold serve at home against Penn State, Wisky, and Nebby.
I feel like the O/U on 6-6 hinges on Coach Walters decision.
