The smile says it all!
Great accomplishment by Coleman…

He may or may not get another T-D, but this game should be a huge confidence booster for him going forward.

He could have have scored 25-30 tonight had he recognized how soft the defense was playing behind him. I expect he’ll adjust after he sees the tape.

Awesome game tonight, but it’s almost scary to think what he’s capable of if he ever goes into beast mode!
Cuse's zone really plays into Coleman's hand. He was the zone buster, which gave him passes and scores. He was also closer to the basket than usual, which gave him more rebounds. You still need to have all around talents like CoHawk to get a triple double though.

So what was the double technical about? Idiots on TV didn’t mention it
Kid thought he was fouled while driving to the basket with less than a minute to go. Mouthed off at the ref for tech 1. Ref told him to shut it and he didn't for tech 2. In Boeheim's presser, to his credit, he called it what it was, just a frustrated kid who basically couldn't get anything going in the game and showed a lot of immaturity in how he handled it.

During the game Fran was upset saying that the refs should've just looked the other way, and if this were a single digit game where there was still a chance for Syracuse, I agree. But in a blowout with the game ending, I think it is a good call to T the kid up and then eject him if he doesn't stop yelling at a ref in frustration. Mainly because it doesn't change anything in the game, it protects the refs from something stupid happening and makes sure things don't get completely out of hand, and for the coach of that player it helps serve as a really good teaching lesson of what not to do as a player and how to handle things when you're getting your butt whooped.

The only Illini that didn't shoot decent tonight was Skyy. He was 0-10, 0-7 from 3. Rest of the team was 24-57 (42%) overall and 11-32 from 3 (34%). Just one of those nights for Skyy as he had good looks.
He had a difficult time with the zone in the 1st half and understanding what he needed to do and took some open, but ill-advised not in rhythm shots. That said, by the end of the 1st half he started showing signs of understanding how to penetrate the zone and beat it with the pass, and then in the 2nd half he started dismantling it picking up a number of hockey assists. While it doesn't show well in the box score, he did a great job on defense, did a wonderful job on the boards, and really started getting the ball movement needed to blow the top off this thing. I think most of us knew the freshmen wuld struggle with the zone, but the one thing I learned from this is how fast a learner Skyy is. He picked up on it rather fast for a freshman PG. Shoutout to Ty Rodgers as well who also did a great job busting the zone and getting to the right places when he was on the court. Love our freshmen. Super high ceiling.

This team is so insanely fun to watch and I couldn't help but chuckle at some fans having complaints about beating a well respected bball program like the Cuse by 29 points🤣
We have come a long way from praying to just make it a game & not be embarrassed while Groce was our coach.

Damn good win imo. GO ILINI!

Why the huge jump? Syracuse is not a good team this year. Any insight on what made the computer like us
I am not really sure. It could be that we are coming to the point where the effect of preseason expectations/rankings are starting to taper off so our existing resume is being weighted more heavily. It could also be because our margin of victory and defensive efficiency were very good in this game against Syracuse. While they aren't very good, we obliterated them, which is weighted pretty heavily by the computer rankings.

I wasn't following the game thread for this one, so I don't know what the vibe was as we were bricking shots early on, but I thought we played pretty darn incredibly in this game. The guys came to WORK tonight. We were moving the ball around and through the zone, and taking good shots. They just weren't going in. The effort and intensity was obviously there on the defensive end too.
Brad basically said the same thing in the post-game. Said they've been working on how to win when the shots aren't falling. I think they passed their first test tonight. Relentless. Wore Cuse down.
