This team earned their win...and learned that big wins are never easy. They deserved it. As Bilas pointed out there were no turnovers in their last 15 min. of play....who saw that coming?

Never count this team out. The guys on the bench see every blunder and get so pissed off they are ready to fight a bear when Brad calls their number!!

I am certain he feels the same, but I can't wait for Goode to join the party!! Never seen an Illini team where 10 guys play and I feel confident in all. Maybe 3 some FT work is needed, but Harris and Dainja get some credit tonight for getting the ball in the net at a critical moment or two.

Jayden Epps had a huge game.

Hope Skyy keeps his chin up, tough night but good one from which to learn.

And cudos to TS Jr. for turning his night around and lifting the team to victory when he was needed the most.

Absolutely loved DD's hard work and quick feet on defense.

And CoHawk....another solid game...young man knows how to play the game 94 ft. What a future he has...as well as a lovely sister!

Also, MM, welcome to the Fighting Illini. Keep making string music big guy.

And finally, Sencire is likely every bit as good as Trent on defense right now. He may become the poster child for "Fighting Illini" but certainly the leading Battle Award nominee.

Bottom line this was a much needed and well deserved win. Texas deserves their ranking but depth got them in the end. They are athletic and skilled....and so are our Illini!!!!

Four initial postgame thoughts:

1. What back injury? Mayer came to play.

2. Jayden Epps is a grown-a$$ man

3. The boys broke the huddle for OT, walked to the circle, and flat out took the Horns’ lunch money in the ensuing 5 mins.

4. It’s December 6th.

Monster victory. So proud of this team.

Incredible resiliency and grit from this team, especially from Shannon after playing so poorly most of the game, and Epps and Melendez. Our D kept us in it during that poor stretch in the second half that went on for a long time. Harris' defense also took some of the legs out of their guards late in the game. If we can take better care of the ball, Mayer can play anywhere close to what he did today we can do amazing things this year. And, all of this happening without perhaps our best outside shooter and one of our toughest players - Goode.

We are not that bad at free throws depends who is shooting

Give me RJ Epps TSJ Hawkins haven’t really made an opinion on Clark or Mayer yet and we are good.

Harris and Dainja are not strong at the line a combined 4-10. Subtract their shots. We shot 81%

March 2, 2021 against Michigan in an epic Ann Arbor beat down without Ayo.

I believe this is only top 2 AP true road win.
Sorry you're right. I got ahead of myself and meant *non-con team. I know we beat Wake at home in 04. But had a feeling this was historic in that it's our first top 2 victory away from home.
