The worst call of the night was when Coleman blocked a layup, controlled the rebound and the ref under the basket alley the ball off of Shannon falling out of bounds. Good thing replay was shown.
I think it was when Epps was called for throwing the ball out of bounds when it was clearly deflected by a texas player. Unreal. Underwear nearly lost his mind.

(Dr.) Ed Hightower was the Superintendent of Schools at Edwardsville for 19 years during his 36 year tenure as an NCAA official. Could never figure out how he handled that combination.
I believe he Had his own plane and pilots license

I can't say I agree with this. I thought he was pretty good while being second only to TV Teddy Valentine in terms of antics.
When I was in Krush, our favorite referee was Steve Welmer. He would talk to us and make jokes and, at least once, admitted to a call being bad.

Also, he would always hike up his pants before running after a play like "oh s***, I gotta run!"

Had the opportunity at a banquet to hear Steve Welmer speak back when he was still officiating....he told the story about a college assistant coach that was on him pretty good during a game for bad calls....Welmer getting tired of his complaining, turned and told the assistant that "hey I can't get them all right"....in which the assistant said..."well try getting just one right"......Welmer said OK...then T'd the assistant up....in which he told the assistant...."there you go I finally got one right"......Welmer said the asst. coach laughed and didn't say a word the rest of the game......Welmer was a real jewel.....lol

He once tossed Bobby Knight at Assembly Hall, too.

Refs are against us, Kevin Warren is against us, announcers are against us, are people going to start postingnn about next about Mrs. Underwood being against our team?
Actually, I heard she is a closet Iowa fan, so .....

In other college sports, officials have day jobs. As a result, the pool you’re pulling from is dictated by availability as much as quality. I assume it’s the same for basketball.
Big caliber refs make roughly $2000 per game, plus expenses. They may do 70 to 100 games per season. Not bad money.

I agree, a showboat and prone to 2 or 3 WTF calls per game, but much better than a lot of refs working now.

Probably the biggest POS to ever wear stripes. HUGE Indiana homer.

Respect your opinion, but we were hosed by him a bunch of times.
BIG refs hose every team in the BIG all the time. They are equal opportunity mistake-makers, arrogant as **** and that's how it is. You ought to sit on the bench and deal with these kinds of characters for a few years.

I don't like refs, cause they are -- in my experience -- all prima donnas. And yeah, I've tried reffing (I was terrible).

But the idea that the refs care about outcomes is ridiculous. They screw up, all the time, without a care in the world.

Agree to disagree but this ref was equal opportunity in hosing everyone for the benefit of Indiana. I saw him ref a lot of our games and he was like any other refs except when you played Indiana.

That's not what equal opportunity means. Refs screw up, equally over the long run, against everyone. Get that through your noggin, and you will be a more on-top-of it fan.

Any OTHER theory of ref incompetence (there are lots!) is a conspiracy theory. Yes, conspiracy HAS happened, even in the NBA. We all know that.

But that's NOT what accounts for the overwhelming majority of mind-numbingly screwed-up calls made by the dudes in stripes. Ask a coach, at any level, man!

Refs screw up. That's NOT ok. But they could care less who actually wins any game they ref. They could care less! It's just take the money (no, not payoff, the ref fee) and get out of Dodge.

That's part of why Refs make so many excruciatingly dumb calls.

Over and out.
