Illinois is attempting to get a waiver for last year's starter Tommy DeVito to return and also could pursue players in the transfer portal.

Illinois is in the process of applying for a waiver to get Tommy DeVito a seventh season of eligibility, but it is unclear where that process stands. DeVito transferred from Syracuse last season to be the Illini’s starter and threw for 2,397 yards and 15 scores in 12 games.

Oh , I fully understand that . I just don’t know why some programs seem to get 50-60 receiving yards from them per game and we get 15

better than 20% but yes, Tip probably could have had another ~100 yds if he didn't drop so many. could have had at least 1 more TD as well, maybe a few more, but there were some costly drops. If our TEs can improve on that going forward their production will increase by default.

I guess the next question from me would be, Are we still looking to get any more transfers? We seem to be confident about QB ( Devitto) and maybe Brown coming back, but what other positions could we be looking at?
Brown is not coming back. It's been reported here that he is sitting out the bowl game. And as we know, EVERYTHING that is reported here is the gospel truth!
(Unless we're talking about Bill Brown coming back...)
Just speculating, we likely need some help on the DLine. Avery won’t be back and Newton is likely gone, so that looks like a logical place to add depth or a plug and play guy if you can find someone. Those types are highly coveted though.

Not real sure on the translation part of it, but Jojo has been pretty big for us in doing his best to help our recruiting class! Wonder if it's in any regards to the recent UM committ?
He also just liked a recent Matt Rhule tweet, so maybe they're after him? I've read from some insiders that some of our recruits are being poked around.

Patterson appears to be a true freshman, so 3 years left: I like it. Hopefully, he's another relatively unheralded gem unearthed by our staff.

After losing Walters I fully expect going 0fer. I have been conditioned as an Illinois fan to always expect failure. Anytime something good occurs, we will immediately lose said good thing and end up right back where we were.

Does staff think Patterson can play CB? He's listed as a safety, that's why I'm asking. Guessing they think he can play CB, 'cause his offer came after Hill faded away.
Patterson has excellent height for a CB.
I know they want a couple safeties after losing Sydney and Kendall. Think the Louisville kid fills the nickel roll. So I would assume safety to start unless he shows great DB skills then they could move him. They love tall DBs
