Given the NIL world, do great recruiting assistants make as much sense now? Wouldn't it be better to get the best x's and o's coaches?
Although we have plenty of room to improve in recruiting- NIL isn’t pulling us through with top recruits- I would still get good recruiters

I'm not worried about us. I trust BB to put together an amazing staff - he did it once and he has the necessary connections and reputation to do it again.

To be honest, I would be pretty worried if I were a PU fan. These hires are an early indication that Walters' professional network is tiny. And as a CEO now, he needs to be able to leverage his connections to build an entire program. It's a bad look if it becomes obvious those connections are functionally limited to the program he just left.
I like this comment. Reflects my thinking as well.

On the flip side, I was also impressed when RW hired Graham Harrell so quickly.

It's likely RW played against Harrell when Colorado was in the Big 12 against Tx Tech. Maybe wanted that offense?

Feels like BB can solidify the staff and bring more synergy to the team, if that's possible in this day and age.
Having said that IW&CP will be missed

Looking at the staff…would have been happy if staff was intact. Also thankful for their contributions and happy for their promotions. Also hoping we can get good quality staff replacements.

Thought it was an unwritten rule that when someone left they only took 1 person with them...

At least that is the way I understood it. I am happy for these guys, but it seems Walter's is just poaching our guys because he has no other connections. Doesn't bode well for his future in Purdont if he has no connections.

I think the understanding is one person frpm the coaching staff unless they have permsiiion to take more
its been suggested that he may have asked BB for permission to talk to CP about a lateral move to Purdue and BB must have given his okay

He took Kane, Patterson and some off the field guys….he isn’t purging anything. And I can tell you Bret isn’t worried in the slightest about losing Kane or Patterson
Is there a good chance IW goes with him? That will shut this nutty group down.

B.B. could find an alien on the moon and hire him and he would wind up being a head coach somewhere. I realize we have lost some coaches but I too trust in B.B. B.B. or BUST!

Walter's is absolutely purging the illini staff and no 2 cents about it. When he was initially hired I knew there would be some departures but not to this extent. I hate to say this because I loved Walter's but this could turn in a love/hate thing real quick for me.
I’m already there, but minus the love part. F him.

Patterson never got us the recruits we promised ourselves that he would when we hired him. Even the Trinity "pipeline" only got us so much and missed on a couple others, never developed STL more than what would have happened without him. Personally think he underperformed in that regard, not too worried about losing him
By all reports, CP is a good man. That's great. However, IMO, he was only an average RB coach and recruiter. I think when all is said and done, we will have an equal to and likely better staff after all the dust settles.

I’m tired of hearing about Purdue. We have one of the best coaches not only in the Big 10, but in the country. There’s a long line of coaches waiting to fill our vacancies. Many panicked when our basketball assistants left. We have the resources to attract top tier candidates. Purdue loses their qb, top receiver, and several starters. Most of their wins were 7 points or less.
