I'm 36, so not some grouchy old man, but the change in transfer rules and NIL is going to have a bigger impact than we realize. You pay a guy a million dollars to come play for a year, why on earth would he care what the coach has to say. He's getting paid either way.

We need to get Mayer 10 more shots a night, who knows if that's feeding a problem, but he needs fed more.
It's time to teach Epps and Clark whatever got Plummer so many looks.
I don't see an issue with Mayers play. He is shooting it at a high clip for several games and does share the ball. He is over 50 percent with limited turnovers for several gamed. . He was open and the ball wasn't shared to him I was frustrated vs and he should be too. As it was stated someone is immature and it's not Mayer. I don't feel BU has an issue with Mayer either because he was in the game.
Coleman has ability but isn't nearly as good as he sees to think he is. He has his moments but he needs to change. He was 0-6 from 3
and led the team in turnovers once again.
The line up that was played in the second half with a couple returnees on the bench played well together. Mayer and TSJ we're a part of it with the freshman and our teamwork was much better. It wasn't hard to see the difference .

NIL is a new world. NIL for the lack of a better term lets the inmates run the asylum. Our culture is there and it isn’t going anywhere, but money changes things. Being recruited is a lot like being interviewed, especially upperclassmen and some are great interviewers. I have one player on this team in mind who is a problem, one who needs a reality check, and two who have been poisoned.
None of this gets corrected until someone steps is puts some people in their place.

I want Mayer to get more shots, how did you read what I said and take it any other way than he needs 10 more opportunities a game?

I don’t know anything other than that I’m an old burned out drunk who pretty much only has Illini basketball to live for… and this was perhaps the worst I’ve felt after a game in…….. I don’t know how long. Geesh. It’s easy to guess where the blame lies, but it could point so many ways. I just hope the players can have a long hard look in the mirror over break; the coaches can reach their deepest level of maturity; and we fans can take a deep dive into whatever (else) keeps us going. Trying to be reasonable, it was one game. Let’s enjoy our families, holiday stuff, and depending on your faith practice - that. Who knows, maybe there will be a festivus miracle along the way. Peace, my friends. Take deep breaths.

I was agreeing not arguing! I think it's time for Hawkins to sit until he is willing to be a team player and take care of if the ball. Hawkins wants to be the key guy and he is not.
Also even though Harris isn't the most talented he plays hard and I hope He and Epps play more. At least until others bring it like he does. We need those two and TSJ to penetrate and play to their strengths.

I have been so positive about this team this year, but I feel like these last 2 games have shown some major issues that have to be addressed.

At this point Skyy is the 3rd best freshman guard and needs to be played as such.

Mayer comes across as a guy just looking for his numbers. Not sure at all if that's true...but that's what his demeanor comes across as. I unfortunately think he is becoming the most dominant personality. And I don't think that is a personality looking to win a title this year as much as get drafted. Again, not sure if that is true, but he carries himself that way. It could also be that he cares more than the rest of the guys and is mad about that. Doesn't seem like that though.

Shannon works hard, but has obviously struggled for stretches offensively. I would try to get him to focus on being a lockdown defender and the other stuff will figure itself out. He has to have the defensive success drive the offensive success rather than try to do it the other way around.

Hawkins is literally my favorite player on the team...and I wanted him on the bench tonight. But, I feel a lot of his struggles are not completely of his doing, His use as the de facto point guard in the half court is not putting him(or us) in a position to succeed. He is a great passer and ball handler for his size. He is not a great passer or ball handler for a Big 10 point guard. Use him alongside Dain more. Mainly because he's the best guy we have at feeding the post.

RJ has become a near non-factor at times. Instead of raising his game with the new players he has blended into the background. If we ran plays we could actually run stuff to try to get him going.

Harris has to start. End of story. The message not starting him sends leads to the performance we had tonight. No one deserves to start more than him. No one.

Coaching. Not good. We run no offense. I've seen teams run straight motion, but that implies there is motion. Little movement with very few screens is not a motion offense. So we don't run plays, and don't really run a motion so of course we are going to struggle to score. We had a HUGE advantage inside with Dain(or really 3 or 4 other guys is they posted up) tonight and its like we have no plays to get the ball inside...cause we don't. The announcers made a comment about Illinois players having some tough practices coming up. I don't think that's the answer. Practice smarter. Work on offensive sets. We can't rely on transition offense or 3's. And if there are guys that are working their butts off in practice and games and are legitimate players. Start them. Playing time has always been the ultimate motivator.
You nailed it. Also, I’m sure a bunch of promises were made to Skyy but Harris has got to start over him. It has to be done. If we risk losing Skyy because of it, so be it. Harris has earned it. He was a big reason why we won against Texas and UCLA. Every time he’s on the floor, he makes things happen.

As a leader/coach you’re always under a microscope. It is fascinating to see the changes in perception by the fan base when a team struggles. Chemistry comes from all angles. If you have been in a leadership role successfully, you do a lot internal reflection on how you manage, which I think Brad has shown in his career. It takes one person to create a toxic environment. It’s tough to always know whether to push/work through it or cut ties.

Yes, these are young men, but ultimately there comes a time responsibility and accountability have to win out. There is a vast amount of talent everywhere, it’s the heart, work ethic, personal accountability, and tenacity that put you in the elite level.

One drunk to another. If you’re like me, these are the games that help you step back and realize there are, in fact, more important things. Enjoy the family and that holiday stuff. Never know how many we have left. Drink this one off with however many it takes (I’m at 9 and counting), and then take stock and laugh it off. I L L - love you and your passion.
- sincerely, fellow idiot.

U may wanna read some of the insiders' posts.

I have, and I still remain hopeful that they will find a way to work the issues out. You are never as good as your best game (Texas), and never as bad as your worst (Tonight). Have a lot of talent that could win a lot of games, but not much of a team at the moment.

The Skyy and Epps situation feels similar to the Adam Miller and Curbelo situation, i.e., player A was promised the starting gig, player B is simply playing better. Let’s hope it doesn’t unfold the same way.

Also I can’t wait to have Goode back on the court. Seems like he’s the only rotation piece from last year who gives a sh*t about the culture that Trent/DMW/Ayo built from the ground up.

I'm having trouble understanding, but did we have some quitter mentalities on the floor too long tonight? I have never seen a Brad Underwood team quit before. If this carries into the next games, our chances of making the tourney will dwindle quickly.
