Our woes on both sides of the ball right now are not a problem with the scheme. Clearly the problems run deeper down to how we play as a team. This groups of players couldn't successfully run ANY defensive scheme right now until they figure out how to play with heart and as a team again.

My observations from the tv:

Mayer - his teammates don't like him, neither do the coaches, probably his Mom as well
Shannon - no leadership, openly won't pass to Mayer (see above)
Coleman - just completely lost in his head
RJ - see Coleman
Skyy - bottomed out, no desire on defense
Sencire - hopefully emerging as a leader this team desperately needs
Epps - keep improving, should take more of Skyy's minutes

Underwood - the stick hasn't worked, maybe the carrot will?

Watch our first couple possessions of the game again. Looks like we purposefully were avoiding passing it to Mayer.

Teams that are our kryptonite currently:
1. Old
2. Get up and down in transition
3. Shoot the 3 well.

#1 because they can bully our freshmen. #’2 and 3 because our off ball and transition defense are a work in progress.

Missouri checks all 3. In fact they might be the best in the country at #2. Not surprised we got smacked in hindsight.

I was hoping our off ball and transition defense would have improved more by now but it just hasn’t. We are giving up way too many easy looks at the basket and open 3’s.

I realize Mizzou took their foot off the gas a bit but that group that brought us from 35 to 20 also played really hard.

Not saying we need to make changes to the starting lineup but guys clearly need to have a shorter leash. Specifically Coleman Skyy and RJ. I think they’ve shown now if they don’t have it they won’t find it.

Only issue with yanking Coleman is Dain struggles guarding 5’s on the perimeter right now. But we may have found something late with Mayer at the “5”.

I said during the thread this team was bound to have some ugly loses with so much youth and a brand new system. Just sorry this game had to be one of them.

Take the holiday and enjoy it with family and regroup. Then get back to work.

BU almost at a loss for words in the radio post-game interview. Said he just told the team that this loss is on him and repeated that multiple times. Said they had great practices but he has to do a better job of preparing this team and he saw this coming, which is the same thing he said after the Penn State game. Just called out the team's lack of toughness again and said they'd run to the locker room when they get a boo boo

For all that have heard or may know what the hell is going on with this team, please tell us! Hawkins body language and play seems to be a huge issue. I also think it’s fishy how Clark is still starting. Are there issues internally amongst the coaching staff?

I think it is safe to say everyone on this board has some frustrations and questions. I would love to know how we got this far off the rails with whatever rift exits between players, or players and staff.

Mayer is our best player and he knows it. Probably tells everyone too.

We need to get him volume touches. Think Brian Cook circa 2003 with the good young developing guards around him.

Coleman and Shannon need to accept roles. As a facilitator and a slasher respectively.

Honestly, I’d have been okay if Brad would have had Chester do the post-game tonight (although that may not be allowed). I don’t know that he’s specifically the problem, but I do think it’s now on him in how he addresses the issues.

When we don't have guys making tough contested threes, then our offense is atrocious. No movement, poor spacing. We don't really run anything. Needs to get fixed asap.

-Clark was promised a starting job. 1st dagger. Seems like the hands are tied on that one. Mayer is a good player, but isn’t as coachable to me as he feels he he knows better because he was on a winner. Coleman has always challenged Brad, but has always been coachable with riding that fine line. Seems like like a certain teammate is in his ear.

Unfortunately its looking like we are going to be losing a lot more games this season than anyone on here thought.

2nd half, TV showed when the guys came over for a timeout Underwood was yelling at some players in the huddle and Coleman just walked over to one of the bench chairs and sat down.
