Its typical Brad cap--just gotta take any stat he says with a heavy grain of saltlistened to BU's presser and here are my thoughts..............................
1. BU's " UM " play is still at his consistent normal rate of 16-18 " UM's " per minute.....I would really be worried if his " UM "rate was elevated due to the shoddy play we have been seeing......................
2. I have to question BU's definition of our half court D as being ELITE ??..................Analytics are one thing.....what i have been seeing is not elite D.....JMHO
3. BU brought up analytics on our offense and had some rates on FG eff. and FT rate.......WTF...........we don't shoot FT's well at all......He mentioned us taking contested shots with 17-18 seconds on the clock and not having patience.....Well BU , what is it ....??....A under 7 seconds offense or a milk the clock offense ?
whatever you want to call it , our O has , at times , been very offensive to watch.....
4. Finally mentioned using the benching of players making mistakes and learning from increased bench time as a weapon to reducing mistakes.....duh......it's been that way since I played HS BB way back in the mid to late 60's........A cohesive team plays without over thinking and at a pace where the team uses the skills of the players on the court to make team plays..........key word is TEAM........we are individuals playing as 5 separate entity's instead of a TEAM.....
5. He was asked about Zach P.......BU mentioned he measured 7' 1" and 220 in shoes.....really ??.....I guess i missed the height # on him.......
I still believe in BU and this team , but , something has to change for us going forward or this will be a tortuous B$G season .....
Tweaks and adjustments are great if needed and we surely need them......The psu and misery games show that.......The ucla and texas games show us at our best ...........Which team shows up the most for the remainder of the season , good , bad or ugly will determine if we.......
1 . make the tourney
2. make it to the second weekend of the tourney or farther
3. or flame out in the first round......
I will watch every second of every game and hope for the best ......I've seen the worst this year and am ready for the best to come out each and every game remaining on our schedule .....I hope the players feel that way also......
Finally , it should be interesting to see who starts the next game and how many minutes each player gets after the BU and staff have examined the good and bad play of all the players up to this point .......that's what BU said the staff did over this holiday break.....I hope they found some answers to this
perplexing play we all have witnessed....We can be VERY VERY good AND we can be VERY VERY bad,,,,,,,,,I hope for the former , not the latter.....
As always , JUST MY HUMBLE OPINION...........................
Yeah, and it’s just numbers…for every bit of analytical data that implies one thing there is analytical data that negates it. It’s kinda like the Old Testament you can extrapolate /make it say what you want it to.Reminds me of a History professor I had back in college....He would say " I know nothing about art.....but I know good art when I see it"......that's kind of where I'm at with all the analytics in sports....I know they have their place and value....but I know good basketball when I see it....I don't need a lot of stats to tell that it's good, when my eyes tell me otherwise
Louisville is definitely bad enough to be 16-seed worthy this year. But you still have to wonder if they'd ever be a 16-seed. If they somehow won the ACC tourney, it would probably mean they beat at least a fringe top-25 team, and that win alone could be enough to bump them up to a 15. I really hope it happens at some point - some kind of 5-25 power conference team making a miracle conference tourney run - just to see what the committee does.
At first I thought you meant University of Michigan every time you typed "UM."1. BU's " UM " play is still at his consistent normal rate of 16-18 " UM's " per minute.....I would really be worried if his " UM "rate was elevated due to the shoddy play we have been seeing......................
Well we were pretty elite until the last 3 or so games when the wheels fell off. I would be the numbers are still pretty weighted in our favor given our earlier play.2. I have to question BU's definition of our half court D as being ELITE ??..................Analytics are one thing.....what i have been seeing is not elite D.....JMHO
You have to be very careful using benching as a motivational or punishment tool, because it can have the opposite effect. Sometimes a player just needs to shoot through a slump and they'll never get better if they are more worried about someone taking their play time at the slightest screw-up. In my opinion, benching is best for when people are blatantly not following the game plan or something rather than simple mistakes... to a certain point, anyway. Simple mistakes do pile up, after all.4. Yep I can see my seat numbers but no tickets yetAnybody else have mobile pass tickets and haven't received them yet?

Agreed…sometimes an optic test and a sniff test are useful.
I get what you are saying…and I agree many a player has: had his confidence shattered, lost the feel for the game, and ultimately had his/her shot adversely affected by a coach jerking ‘em out of the game at the drop of a hat. I may or may not of had it happen to me at one point. lolAt first I thought you meant University of Michigan every time you typed "UM."

The dude put us on the map again, man. I fully support any means or method he deems useful or necessary. But what I said was true. Analytics can be discussed selectively and subjectively can they not? Brad is quite good at handling the media. He also tends to be hyperbolic at times…which is ancient news. It's funny we're ragging on BU for using analytics, when analytics is what caused him to change from his pressure defense after year 2. Since then we've been the best team in the B1G.
Switching anything up defensively? There's been some really good progress made the last few days. I expect to see a different team starting on Thursday
yea benching players for poor performance (and I assume we're talking starters here) or changing a starting line up can be a tricky thing...when I coached, I found that making a change in your starting lineup seemed to go better (team and morale wise) when I started a new player because of their play...not because of the play or lack of ....the player being benched or not starting...I tried to send the message that this kid is starting because of his good or better play...and basically saying if you want to start again then you need to elevate your play...work harder, get betterAt first I thought you meant University of Michigan every time you typed "UM."

Stop. Bardo is excellent. Let's stop sounding like whiny small-time fans.Bardo's on the call. Time to turn down the volume and listen to Barnhart.
What does IIRC stand for?
That's cool of both of you. Doesn't look like Duke has a game until Saturday so it'll be nice for Grandison to cheer on his former team.Taking the grandson tonight, hopefully it's a better performance than suffering through that PSU game with the wife...![]()
He can indeed be hyperbolic but I also think there were some missed details in what he said (by some on the board). For example I believe he said something about free throws but someone took it as free throw percentage made when I believe he was talking about percentage of plays getting to the line. Obviously both are pretty helpful to do well at but kinda related to your point, different problems need different solutions. The dude put us on the map again, man. I fully support any means or method he deems useful or necessary. But what I said was true. Analytics can be discussed selectively and subjectively can they not? I get your point, but ultimately my comment was really more about the nature of analytics than it was Brad Underwood using analytics.
I really hope so. Underwood teams have a habit of getting me super excited and then I start to lose faith somewhere in the season, and just when that happens things start clicking again. I hope it’s just that - we’ve figured some things out. But I’m not sure focus and intensity are the only problems. How has the team resolved hero ball / ball movement issues and lack of on-court leadership? And ball control? And taking contested shots? Unless by ‘focus’ you mean all that? There's been some really good progress made the last few days. I expect to see a different team starting on Thursday
You have to be a farmer to be outstanding in your field.they have an outstanding coach
