I know, over matched opponent, but encouraging. IMO , better defensive scheme , ball movement, moving without the ball, hustle, and seemed to play together better within the offense. Unnecessary turnovers still a problem. Hopefully the last two weeks was the low point of the season and we keep on an upward trajectory. Seems to me, none of the players or coaches have given up when some of us had. On a side note , how about the illini wbb!

I’d rather be good without them and let the freshman play then watch the half 🍑 effort … 🤷🏻‍♂️

Sure loved the first half effort by all. Hated seeing the turnovers....and a handful were just stupid/careless passes. But play hard like that, move the ball fast, and move on both ends is a good mix of positives that almost always get a win. Now, it MUST continue in Evanston or the Wildcats will shut down the Illini with tough defense.

For the first time, BL appeared to be somewhat competent...but for a 7 footer, he ends up on the floor too often. BU just might be thinking of throwing him in against Edey...who knows?

Would have really loved to have seen MM hit one of his missed threes and have 6 players in double figures...great balanced scoring but to much reverting to bad habits in the second half.

Seeing Goode still in a walking boot does not make me think he will be near 100% until Feb. at least. We need his leadership, shooting, toughness, ball security, and in game smarts.

It will be interesting to see how BU handles The Zipper who I am certain is chomping at the bit to get on the floor. Red shirt? We will see soon enough. Learning lessons in B1G play is not generally helpful.

I am expecting a battle from NW in Evanston but also expect this team to understand it is a must win and show out with a longer stint of Fighting Illini elite effort like we saw in the first half tonight.
I could be mistaken but I could have sworn Luke was out of the boot. Believe Serven is in one.

What's the word on the severity of Skyy's shoulder injury? Will he be good to go vs. Northwestern?

Won’t hear anything from me … This is a fair take …

We also thought Skyy would be a lot better than he is … 🤷🏻‍♂️

Just keep tellin myself Brad was sick of being great early and sees something with this group that will spark in March.

I'd be lying if I said I saw it, even a little bit, but if there is one guy I trust its him.

When his shots not falling … He’s disengaged … Refuses to play hard on D and won’t make hustle plays …

That’s a 1 way ticket to the dog house with Brad …

It's baffling to me that a 2nd or 3rd year player would let a freshman out hustle them. Maybe you're more talented/physically gifted than me....but zero chance you're gonna out hustle me.

If I was Brad I'd be a broken record pointing at Sencire Harris.

I don’t think Goode has a boot on.

Much better effort and some things to build upon. Now let’s see it against a good team — and then string together two strong efforts against good teams. Cuz that’s what team is gonna need (and more) If they want to climb back into B1G race and get beyond first weekend of tourney.

I know there's a long way to go and Skyy is very talented with a lot to learn....but a Sencire/Epps/Skyy/Goode/Dainja lineup has my basketball antennae up.

WOW! Three delightful things I saw tonight:
One: Harris and Dainja started and played starter minutes!
Two: No switching defense. Tough man to man, muscling over picks!
Three: an actual offense, with movement, picks and cuts to the basket! No more 5 out standing around waiting for the 30 second clock!
Hope we can do this against a competitive team.

It’s late and I’m in my usual state… but I just don’t get the Hawkins hate (hey, that rhyhmed). I mean, he is never going to meet YOUR expectations, but he is who he is. He had a double double and I believe led us in assists (though I could be wrong on the assists). He also had some phenomenal passes. Yet no one gives him a break. RJ and MM were like 3 of 4,562, TSJ recklessly drove into the lane how many times, Skyy had a “shoulder injury,” Ty can’t hang onto the ball (and you thought he could be our latex salesman). I don’t know. And, yeah, I forgot my point, but…. Yeah!

The intensity was great to see. I’m cautiously optimistic the staff and players are trying to get on the same page with each other, and those that aren’t won’t see much tick. We still have mental lapses that are head scratchers and defensively I sometimes think we rely too heavily on our inside length to bail us out with drives to the basket. Overall, it’s a step in the right direction and a little boost to those buying in.
