Am I wrong in starting to get really optimistic for this fall?? I am not expecting some crazy season, but this is the most optimistic I have been going into a season since probably 2008, partly because of the schedule!
Wide error bars in both directions. But more upside than we've had going into a season since 2009, I'd say.

It's a huge year, no two ways about it. This is the hinge point of the BB era. Scary and exciting in equal measure.

It was definitely encouraging to see how the defense played in the bowl game with Henry calling the show and with the young guys playing on the backend. I think that will keep the floor of this team high enough to be ok.

I have a weird amount of confidence that we roll out of IC with a win. It will be Lunney’s year next season. I think we have a day against the Hawkeyes. I mean, we are due for a win there, amirite?

Edit: I assume Aaron Henry has the defense holding to form.
And imagine if Iowa's offense is struggling learning a new system. That would put their offense at 131st out of 131 FBS teams!

Athletic director Gary Barta to be involved in evaluation of Iowa football offensive coordinator Brian Ferentz
"Iowa’s offense has struggled in 2022, ranking 130th out of 131 FBS teams in total offense. The Hawkeyes averaged 255.4 yards per game in 2022 — ranking above only New Mexico’s 228.1."

Happens often. Recruiters don't really care about stats or how many championships you won in HS, but how you project as a player. A good example here in CA is a lot of kids are holdbacks, repeating grades in middle school and such. as a result they dominate the competition in games, at camps, etc... but then that is their peak god-given ability. Younger players in the same grade eventually catch up physically and often are better mentally, because they had to be to keep up, where as a more physically mature HS player could rely primarily on physical advantage.

Holdbacks because a boy (its almost always boys) isnt mentally ready for school at age 5 is one thing and a valid practice.
Holding a boy back so he's larger and more physically developed than his classmates, almost never works out

They brought all the incoming freshman out on the court at the game last night and introduced them all one by one to a mostly standing ovation. It's been pretty nice to see the increased recognition football has been getting recently.

I think another year of improvement with Lunney before a school like Arkansas could reasonably come calling his number.

That being said, nothing about the SEC is reasonable.
