Did Mayer get benched again? Been our most important piece the past 2 weeks. He had an off night. Am I missing some other reason why he was on the bench the final 10 or so? If it was him forcing/etc. that he had to sit, might need to hold others on the team to the same standard.
(Apologize in advance if I missed another reason why he was on the bench down the stretch.)

His final moment in the game was watching TJD grab an offensive rebound instead of going it and then basically standing there for TJD to throw it off of him. Mayer did not have a good game though it really wasn't as bad in my opinion as some of his games earlier this season. He just never got involved in the offense. As for defense, unless his role was to be constant helpside defense on TJD, I didn't think it was terrible it just didn't have any effect on what Indiana was doing out there

TJD went off on us but that is not why we lost. If we would had made some of our easy layups and free throws we would have been in the game. We had a higher 3 point percentage than free throw. You are not going to win many games shooting 36%

TJD took his aggression out on us because he couldn’t against Kofi

Why didn't BU throw the kitchen sink at TJD? It was 1:1 all night... Clearly it was a mismatch with DD... Heck put Lieb out there for a couple minutes just to change his sightlines.

Anyone know why SH is starting over Epps? I love SH's toughness and energy, but Epps is clearly the better ball handler and scorer.
2nd unit scoring...he plays when the game is on the line though....

Really really concerned about how we match up with Dickinson & Edey… We were so spoiled with Kofi

This team (and staff) are such an enigma. They look great one night, then just disappear the next night. Not sure what to expect from them on a daily basis.

All I know is that once March rolls around, it’s gonna be a roller coaster. Plus most of us will be drinking and edibleing a lot more.
I don't know about anyone else, but I'm not waiting till March to start drinking.

Expectations were unrealistic even before this game. During the 4 game-winning streak we beat:
1. Wisconsin at home while they were missing their best player and they are just an Ok team
2. Nebraska on the road but they are not a good team
3. MSU was a nice home win- but Hall, one of their best players- was out the last 10 minutes or so of that game and we had some home cooking official calls
4. Minnesota is even worse that Nebraska.
Same old story on offense- Many missed layups, FT's, Hawkins passing up open shots and then taking bad ones, untimely, momentum-killing turnovers( even though the total wasn't bad), standing around on offense and then going one on one and forcing up a contested shot.
Today, we got beat on the boards- out-toughed it seemed and obviously had no one to stop Davis or Hood Schifino.
The reality is that we are just an average team who might sneak into the tournament where we'll likely lose in the first round( again) or at most the second- if we get in at all.
So disappointing.
I agree 100% on all points, no doubt. The expectations for me before the season were sky high, then we faltered in December, and then the turnaround after the NW game gave me some hope. But, here we are 19 games into the season and we are so inconsistent night in/night out that I just don't feel like that can be eliminated at this point in the season. This team has just not shown the ability (desire?, awareness?, not sure what) to make adjustments or a refuse to lose attitude when punched in the mouth. Disappointing for sure, given the talent.

Thought the effort was inconsistent. Some guys played really hard. Some didn’t. In fairness, it can be really deflating when you can’t stop the other team. And, specifically when you can’t stop one player.

I put a lot of this loss of Brad. Dain’s been fabulous this year, but it’s no surprise a 5th year senior who also has a quickness advantage would take him to school. We should have had a plan B and trapped/helped. If they start raining 3’s so be it. And our press did bother them but feel like the game was out of hand by the time we went to it. Should have gone to it sooner. And finally Brad’s technical was a real momentum killer. We managed to trade baskets with them the first few minutes but with that T they pushed the lead to 15 (should have been 16 but for a missed FT) and ultimately I think that was just too deep a hole to climb out of.

There were some positives. Shot the 3 pretty well. TJ had his best offensive game in awhile. Think this may be the game that gets RJ going.

After the first 10 or so minutes I did think we settled in and ran pretty decent offense. Just missed a ton of layups and free throws. As another poster said, 6th game in 15 days. Fatigue may have played a role in the missed FTs and bunnies. We shoot ~70% from the line and a couple more layups go down I think it’s a much different game.

Tough one but college BB is crazy this year. Learn, get better and onto the next one.

Time to adjust the expectations. Writing is on the wall for this team; very inconsistent mental focus and intensity. Not gonna happen this year.
Every loss is Groundhog Day on this thread. This type of comment was made in the Penn State, Mizzou, NW postgame threads, and now this postgame thread.

Yes, this team is not going to win the B1G regular season title, but going into the year, that was not the expectation. Vegas and MSG brought about some unrealistic expectations, but it also showed what can happen when everything clicks.

Terrible defensive performance that trickled into hero ball on offensive end tonight. I am expecting a better performance Tuesday. This team can still be special and get hot in March. We just got spoiled the last two years with players that were culturally bought into the team for a number of years, which led to consistent performances throughout the year. This team is nowhere near that, but in no way should we write off the rest of this season.
