What is everyone's obsession with Podz? He had his minutes here and he never shot lights out or played exceptional defense. In the end it was his decision to leave and unless I completely missed it he was not creaned or told to leave. He is also not playing against B1G/Power 5 level of competition night in and night out. They have 1 team in that league that has done anything in the last 20 years. So to think he'd be this big scorer going against B1G defenses night in and night out is pretty naive and or just plain delusional.
Nobody likes it when their gf gets hotter after the breakup.

Think you guys are underselling him too much. The WCC is not a "bad" league. I don't think anyone thinks he'd be scoring the same here, but he certainly would be a useful contributor.

I also wouldn't call it obsession, he's a former Illini player having a huge season on his new team. That's exactly what this thread is meant for. I also don't think anyone is wishing him anything but well.

He was a rising Sophomore, so I doubt the staff was overly thrilled on losing him as you generally would rather not lose a player after just one season that you recruited unless it's just blatantly obvious that they cant play. Podz had to do what was his best for him of course, and I don't think anyone foresaw him making this big of a leap. No use fretting though, the portal giveth and the portal taketh. Shannon, Mayer and Dainja all came from the portal and have been monumental this season, with players like Grandison and Plummer before that.

Oh my Curbelo...

Two technical fouls.. after doing a fantastic play. complained to ref... got first technical. Threw his glass on the ground. Second technical within a couple of seconds.

Got ejected..

Man... do not do this to your team.

Imagine telling the fanbase that Coleman would become the best of the freshman after the 2020-2021 season ended. Wild because it’s true

It's a former player thread. When you click on it, expect to hear about former players. Also expect to hear more about guys shooting 42% from three and 19ppg (Podz) than guys getting 5ppg (Omar Payne). As to his leaving, if was creaned, it wouldn't be something that you'd hear about. How much was a push and how much was on him, we'll likely never know.

Definitely delusional to think he'd have anything like his current numbers here. But I do suspect he'd be in the 38%+ range on 3s and would get at least 15 minutes a game and be important.

Still time for Goode and RJ to make an impact this year. If so, you might see less attention to Podz. Although, by then you may have gotten over your obsession to click on threads that annoy you.

I really missed him until tonight. He could not have survived here (b/c BU would not have put up with it) and would not have been good for our culture. Second ejection already this season. I thought they might T him up just before that when he tossed the ball at Dawes’ back after the whistle. Something’s wrong with him since his concussion. I hope he is getting the help he needs.

That sequence is just Curbelo in a nutshell. Makes a spectacular play in one instant, and then loses his cool the next, and then just follows that up with a completely boneheaded move that you just can't have from a player at that level. You're just too important to your team to be doing those kind of things. This was a game at home that St. John's absolutely had to have as far as salvaging any sort of success for the season, keeping pace in the Big East and maintaining whatever slim hope they had of receiving an At-Large bid or even NIT bid. They went up 2 after that layup, they were outscored 40-26 in the last 13:38 after Curbelo's ejection. Announcers said his 2nd one of the season too. Come on, Curbelo, you're better than that.

☝️Good video in that they captured the full escalation. Ndefo was clearly the initiator both times…

A double tech could have been called after Curbelo reacted to the first exchange, but trying to ”get control over the game” a play late is pure referee horse doodoo.

Easier said than done, but Belo should have controlled his emotions there.

Nah it's delusional to think he'd be anywhere near the shooting he is doing in that subpar league. That's the only thing I was commenting on was the whole group that think he would be some god shooter here in the competition we play compared to the school he is at now.

19 against Saint Mary's (that's the Number 5 team in the nation in KenPom Adjusted Defensive Efficiency), 17 against Gonzaga. He is by far the go to guy for Santa Clara, which is the Number 79 KenPom adjusted offense, who leads that team in Points, Rebounds, Assists and Steals (missing - Turnovers, which are lead by someone else). His Box Plus/Minus is the highest in the WCC, a conference with two elite teams, with an offensive box plus minus that is off the charts good.

The WCC may not be the Big Ten, but it's considered the 8th best conference per NET and the 9th best conference per Barttovik. It's not some rinky dink conference like the NEC.

I dunno how real this whole "only one free transfer" without sitting out a year thing is (Omar Payne was able to play right away for Jacksonville despite free transferring to Illinois the season before, and I can't find anything explaining why). If Podz entered the portal again this year and was immediately eligible, High Major Multi-Bid League Programs would all be tripping over themselves to add this guy.

After the initial bump, Curbelo, walking away, tossed the ball off of Ndefo's hip.

Come on Bello. "I truly don't know why I got the first technical foul?" That basically ruined that whole apology sequence right there. And it confirmed that when faced with a similar situation, he'll more than likely exhibit similar behavior.
Was a big Curbelo fan, but I can’t watch this train wreck loop anymore. It’s truly sad to see so much talent self destructing In full view.

He had problems before his concussion.

I didn't see anything that warranted the first Tec either.
In an important and close game like this, I don't blame him. I'd be furious if I were him, especially when I'm the one getting bumped. (yes he threw the ball, but that play was over.

This is a great example of why Refs need to have press conferences. They need to be held accountable for their trash too.

Isn't throwing the dead ball at an opposing player in anger a near automatic technical?
