Minnesota game (Feb. 7th) will not be played

I don't have the numbers on this, and it could simply be confirmation bias while I'm watching the games. But there were 40 some foul calls yesterday. I'm curious how many of them were fouls outside of the lane or on rebounds vs drives to the basket. We have some freakishly athletic wings, and they seem to shy away from driving to the hoop, and I wonder if it's the lack of calls. TSJ went up for a dunk yesterday, and the defender smacked his hand which knocked the ball out (on us). That's two points taken away. But then the officials will call a hand-check as a player crosses half court. I don't understand the logic, and it seems to disrupt the play.

I turned on a game Friday night, and there were six minutes to play in the first half, and neither team had more than four fouls. There was a natural flow, and neither team was disrupted due to the officiating. It was refreshing to watch.

We had lots of silly fouls early in the second half that were true fouls IMO. In general, once one team gets in the bonus I have felt the officials start to call the game tighter. For us, calling a game tight is a big disadvantage because of how physical we are off the ball on defense.

If we are even slightly worried about losing this game than we shouldn't be even considering a top 4 Big 10 finish or the NCAA Tournament.
This team was picked to finish last in the conference, has guys injured and is playing on the road.

From what we’ve seen this season in the Big Ten, nothing is a gimme. Take it to them Illini and put those gophers back in their hole!

Agree, they have the worst KenPom ranking of any B10 team since the Eddie Jordan coached Rutgers Scarlet Knights of 2015-16.

If the game is postponed not the worst thing. Will give us a nice block of time to work on us. I’m confident we can take care of Minny at home on short rest. Should be ok.

Rough timing for Illinois. Minnesota is a freebie and spaced evenly within rest of schedule. There's a four-day gap between @Indiana and Northwestern that seems logical if Minnesota cannot get healthy enough within 24-48 hours. Beyond that, fitting it within the schedule only penalizes Illinois.

Crushes us. Very low chance this is reschedule in a way that doesn’t hurt us. Should be a forfeit.

On the positive. I think now we 100% see Goode the our Illini are on the court.

It's not about beating Minnesota on short rest. It's about potentially having to beat another good team on short rest after Minnesota.

I really should work. Can someone find for the board a likely makeup date that works for both schools so we can start getting worried.

Second place is 1st loser
So much for the "pick me up" game after Saturday's stinger. I was banking on that one. Will be interesting to see where they put this one so that it doesn't create a logjam of games for us. The cynic in me thinks that if Minny didn't get steamrolled vs Maryland at home last weekend and their season wasn't a complete dumpster fire....they would have found a way. Safety first however.

2/20 is the best option (still not good). It's only one-day rest after Indiana but still gives two days of rest before NW at home. The benefit here is that Bloomington to Champaign is a shorter distance + Minnesota and Northwestern would both be home games.


Would be tougher for Minnesota because they would play Illinois on the 20th, then immediately travel to Maryland to play them on the 22nd. The 28th would provide Minnesota with an extra day, but provide Illinois with one less day.

I agree that 2/20 is our best option, but it just really stinks because this postponement impacts our rest days in the biggest stretch of the year. The biggest question is how long MN will be under protocols and if their 2/12 game is at risk against Iowa. With such a cluster of teams at 7-5 in conference, the last thing the B1G would likely want is seeding being impacted by postponement/forfeit wins.
