I don't know if it was Brad's decision or Harris realized it himself that staying on Buie no matter what in the second half was the right choice. Harris is absolutely one of the best in the B10 at locking someone down. Sometimes when you are gaurding the other teams go to guy or someone who is going off you have stay in contact with them even if it means you don't help as much. This has burnt us many times this year. Glad to see they recognized Buie had to be shut down at all costs. Without that there's no chance for the comeback win. Game ball to Harris and Shannon.

If Illinois makes the tourney (i dont count chickens before they hatch, thats just me 🤷‍♂️), and If they are able to make it out of the first weekend, Harris will play a big role defensively and he will be a break out “darling” of the tournament because of his energy and defense.

I have never enjoyed more, watching someone play defense. He is a ball of energy. Which is exactly the type of guy everyone falls in love with come tourney time.

ANDERSON KIMBALL
CHAMPAIGN, Ill. — In his first game back from concussion protocol, Terrence Shannon Jr. decided to put Illinois on his back.
Shannon Jr. scored 24 of his 26 points after halftime coming off the bench, and Illinois overcame an 18-point deficit to beat No. 21 Northwestern 66-62 on Thursday.
Illinois (19-9, 10-7 Big Ten) ended the game on a 30-10 run after trailing by 16 with 11:11 left. Sencire Harris tied the game with 3:07 left on a layup and then Shannon had the Illini’s final five points.

Harris was a plus-10 in 24 minutes and had six points, including some key defense late on Wildcats (20-8, 11-6) star Boo Buie. Buie had 35 points, with three in the final 12:01.
Matthew Mayer had all 14 of his points in the second half, including a pair of free throws to give Illinois its first lead with 2:36 left.

Coleman’s block was phenomenal, but I was yelling about Ty’s tip to keep the ball inbounds when everyone else stopped.

Agree, and a purposeful tip at that to get the break going the other way. Sort of play that Shane Battier would make back in the day, and Dukie Vitale would gush about for the next minute or two and then again after the game. High bb iq play that was relatively unheralded last night.

Does NW get away with the moving screen every game?

What an adjustment by the staff, it’s been a weakness letting guys go off, glad they found a way to tourniquet the BB bleeding
I rarely complain about officiating, but the Northwestern"moose"had some blatant moving screens I would've called.
He's got the move down does the same thing every time, and does not get called

BU in the message to his team after the game made a point of saying that we need buy in from everyone. After a win like that, the comment seemed a little odd. Maybe we know why? Will be an interesting story to follow. Jayden is critical to our excess. He's not a PG by nature. He's in a tough situation with a lot of responsibility. I'm sure he's frustrated.
Yeah, I noticed that too. He repeated we all have to be committed and followed it up with we all have to do our jobs.

The screens were so blatant. Once he even tried to hit someone on a moving screen but missed and fell down like someone pulled the chair out from under him.

Coaches were in the officials all night about the moving screens and their friars pushing off to get space. From the missed screen to the out of bounds call needing to be reversed, we definitely had to overcome bad officiating last night.

Mayer was fouled on the late rebound that they said was our ball too. I haven’t watched the replay yet but I thought for sure that was out on him. Oh and Mayers charge was bogus.

Makes the win even more impressive. We climbed back from a huge deficit while also overcoming calls going against us.

He was as aggressive as I’ve ever seen with hip checks, leaning, moving his feet, to slow up our defenders. If the refs aren’t gonna call it….

Jayden will be fine. He's a competitor and that can happen. Expect him to bounce back Sunday.

With that being said, what a win! Unbelievable. Season changing in that second half
Absolutely incredible for sure. But I doubt it's season changing (though I hope it is). We've had several season changing moments this season and continue having games where we come out looking abysmal. Thankfully this time we made a ridiculous comeback.

We’re the only team in Big10 that has to “overcome” the refs during a home game.

For those who seemingly like to lay all the blame on BU when the Illini play poorly, during his postgame presser it certainly seemed like going under in pick and rolls was not the plan and he was as frustrated about it as we were. Also when someone was asking about Dain’s struggles and reduced playing time in 2nd half, he said they told Dain that waiting before making a move and his patented spin move would not work against NW and their trapping. But that’s exactly what he was doing first half. A coach can come up with a game plan and tell the players things, but up to them to execute. And when it doesn’t happen, we get treated to all the BU can’t coach posts in the game thread.

Not really trying to make a comparison...but somewhere around the 4-5 minute mark last night my thoughts drifted back to 2005... where we were playing the Wildcats (and not NW), in Chicago.....something...something...Darren, Dee, Luther.....Bill Murray.....well you know

For me, he gets the game ball and play of the game when he drove the lane, elevated across the front of the rim, decided that “hey as long as I am up on the third floor I may as well drop this off” no dunk, no bank shot, just simply put the ball in the hole.

Once his offense catches up with his D, and If he can become a consistent scorer (which it looks like is improving) he is going to be a legitimate problem for the other team.

Let's not look too much into it right now. He was having a rough night, and he was likely pissed at himself more than anything. It never feels good being benched because you aren't playing well or the guy you're guarding is just going off on you. Sometimes you miss out on really fun things because you're feeling bad about yourself. I'd be more concerned if he started laughing it up with the cheerleaders having some popcorn when he was pulled. Being upset after a bad performance is human, and shows you have a deep hunger to do better. Jayden will surely be starting next game and Brad will be going back to him and my bet is he'll have a really solid game.
I really hope you are right. Your take makes sense....
