Big problems:

Luke Goode and RJ Melendez were supposed to be our shooters. Goode missed too much time and Melendez lost all confidence in his shot.

Coleman Hawkins and Terrence Shannon worry too much about showing off for NBA scouts than playing smart to win.

Gave the entire keys to the Point Guard position to an overrated Freshman that got cut by Kentucky, who ended up sucking and then quitting, no backup plan. Some of us (like yours truly) mentioned we really should go after a Mid-Major Point Guard transfer, but I guess we needed to keep a scholarship open for Zacharie Perrin to enroll mid-season.

Due to no Point Guard, doesn't matter when we play bad defensive teams, our offense isn't one that knows how to take advantage because we don't really have much of a set offense.

This is an NIT team that will probably get in due to a couple wins that look increasingly more and more like flukes, and an overall weak At-Large field, but at the same time they've done enough to give the Committee reason to snub them if it comes to it.
Great insight

Dread, Funk, Pickett, Wynter, Henn - none of whom would be eligible but for Covid exemption - 25 years of college basketball experience between them. Shrewsberry may have put together a team that could beat us and eek into the tourney this year, but he is going to have to find a whole new team for next year.
I'll be rooting for him. I used to be very upset when Mike Walker drained that three to beat us. Then I met his dad at the BTT and he was so gracious that I'm glad I told him, "That was an incredible shot."

Penn State probably played their way into the tourney. We don't have to face them again. Thank God!

They couldn’t stop Coleman down low and Pickett was on him and could have gotten him in foul trouble yet we didn’t take advantage. We should have run that play getting Coleman down low nonstop until they proved they could stop it. I just don’t get it.

I don't see Matt Mayer's name in any of this?
Not much to say about him, he's what was advertised from Baylor, he does some dumb stuff and has terrible games, but is also a guy that could randomly win some games/ At times he was basically the Illini's only offense (outside of offensive rebound putbacks and when Shannon was actually committed to driving and getting and fouled)... so you live with all the random quick jab stepbacks that leave you scratching your head (since you know he makes those sometimes).

What positive would you have us take from this? Honest question
Once again, there's a league of reaction between toxic and positivity. But I guess this thing called the internet removes reason, nuance, and rationality from a lot of people and we're left with people calling the team trash, insisting they won't watch the Illini in the NCAA game, blah blah blah.

That's not fandom, that's entitled whiner-dom.

I have been noticing this lately. We seemingly have a lot of instances where we are on a run and/or are building momentum and we kick the ball out to someone for that open three pointer... and we miss, again and again. "That would have been huge" we say, but it wasn't, and the other team heads back the other way with the ball.

You could of stopped right there........Anyone with a basic concept of BB knows that the illini this year had their flaws and it would take a masterful job by BU to get all the pieces to mesh into a consistent highly productive unit........it's real easy to enjoy the comeback's against texas and ucla , and northwestern ........easy as can be to support the team when they win.....

But , so much of this season certain so called fans took the easy way out when times got tough and the funny thing is , all the easy way out posters wanted the Illini to be tougher and smarter and play better , but no one taking the easy way out did that themselves and toughed it out and supported the Illini through thick AND thin......That is called being a bandwagon fan .......
I'm not calling ANYONE out at all..........All you have to do is browse the game threads this yeart and they out themselves out with such nonsense .....remember when you think up a post and hit reply it's there for all to see .............

There are a lot of posters who think they are cute by the level and volume of there negative posts , but in reality they are just showing mhow weak they are and I would NOT want to take the court or be in a fox hole or so many other examples of real courage , to expect these bandwagon fans to have to rely on them for anything.............

I have lived through many a down period cheering for the Illini......the slush fund fiasco was tough for me but I saw a university muddle and get through that.........too many other examples to list , but the Illini are my choice as my favorite team and i just can;t see how anyone can lower themselves to the level of hate for the team they supposedly root for......

it's another head scratching thing in life that i can't understand , but to each their own..............This place used to be a lot of fun to come and share ideas with other die hard Illini fans.........the snarkyness of our present day society has leaked into even this sanctuary of fandom and I think everyone should look in the mirror and ask themselves "" did I embarrass myself in any of my posts today........it's called a conscience (sp) and being responsible in your actions......

hey , I'm just another poster spending time here cause I want to........but the want to gets harder every day reading some of the nonsense being shoveled around these threads now.......

Everything is fine ................goodnight.............................

Everyone wants to be a victim . . . .

The poor shooting from distance is this team’s downfall. If they could just shoot 35% from behind the arc, they’d be a very tough out. None of Shannon, Clark, Melendez, Epps or Goode filled that role. Makes the departure of Podz even more aggravating. Got to fix this in the off-season.
Weren’t we dead last in 3 point percentage?

The team should be much better next year with what is coming back. We just need to add some shooting. The lack of a consistent three point threat is killing this team. Goode can be that and he's shown more recently but we need more. Good news is shooting will be coming via the portal along with a veteran point

Not sure I’d go quite that far. We are still a team thats loaded with talent that could manage to figure it out and be dangerous.
Been waiting all year for that last part to happen. My hopes are not high.

Funny how everyone is upset and hasn’t figured out this team yet. Do what I do and make a friendly wager against the beloved before the game. Then no matter what happens, it makes it much better to deal with. The old win win situation.

Ps I’ve made a small fortune this year. And yes I bet on Penn St to win today.

Wel at least BU learned from his mistake of not taking a transfer PG last year. I personally feel we have some guys that can shoot and need more but they don’t get many good looks without an experienced PG that can drive and make others better,
