I’ve always wondered, did Gentry choose to leave on his own, or was he sort of a casualty of the other two assistants (who both also left)?
Gonzaga is his Alma Mater, and a special program. I think he left on his own given the opportunity.

The possibility of Coleman and TJ coming back are higher than they have ever been. TJs mom might’ve prematurely leaked some stuff as well. Not saying it’s a done deal or will happen but $ talks. Brads A ok if the only guys who return are Goode, Ty, RJ along with Coleman and TJ and the incoming freshman.
I’m very surprised you didn’t list Harris in that group. Was it an oversight, or would Brad not ha be been too concerned about him leaving?

Edit bc I am catching up on other responses. I can’t believe Sencire got a “meh”.

Gentry is one of the best "come up with a scheme that fits the guys on your team" assistants in the nation.

Just didn't jive with O and Chin AT all
So, not to put words in your mouth (although…), he “may” have been helpful this year with transfers?? This is my concern with BU saying we will get in “rock stars.” Fine, but how will they gel? And this is not a knock on anyone. Just raising concerns/questions. I’m rooting for BU and the Illini!

The difference from this team being a 9 seed to a 3 seed comes down to a few key stats
1. Turnovers we avg 13 per game we need to reduce that to less than 11. We were ranked 229
2. 30% from 3 pt. Need to improve that to 35%. Going along with point 1 how many bad 3s did we take. Those should also count as turnovers. Our current talent could probably shoot 35% if the right person/shot was taken. We were ranked 329
3. Free Throw percentage of 68% is unacceptable. We were ranked 301
4. Need more assists per game. We were ranked 229

That is four areas we gave away points every game.

And this is something we really needed this year. I don’t think the scheme matched the personnel, especially after Clark wasn’t the PG we thought we were getting (and then he left).

Some head coaches do a lot better when they have their main assistant with them. Weber with Lowry and Self with Norm Roberts are two examples.

Lowery has been a great addition for Chris collins too.

So, I kind of checked out mid season. My old heart required it and I sensed it was a time to sit idly by. Now that it’s over, just a late-night, drunken observation… I really hope all the freshmen are back (especially Jaden), RJ, Goode, and Coleman. Anyone else is gravy. Dain would be great too, but he just didn’t look dialed in to me the latter half of the season. Personally, I think Hawkins is the integral piece. Add a couple support players, and I’m good. I prefer Brad build a TEAM than collect some “stars.” But what do I know?? Just happy to be here, and appreciate ya’all putting up with me. Thank you.

Just MHO, but if CoHawk and TSJ get solid feedback they are a 2nd round pick, they are gone. No guarantees in life. They will have people in their ears. Not realistically going to improve their stock, never going to be a lottery pick, by coming back for another year. If your entire life you dreamed about being an NBA pick, you gone.

Honestly, Coleman is not going to be on draft boards. He just wasn't consistent enough and he has more to improve on.

I think TSJ's draft stock dropped since January. It would be great to see TSJ come back though. I'd welcome both back with open arms. Just gotta get a veteran PG out of the transfer portal

I live in northeastern Pennsylvania and I see very little of anything other than PSU. Which is understandable because i am in Pennsylvania. But I see a ton on PSU hats, shirts, stickers and license plate frames on cars.

When I go back out to the old country, it’s not the same. Of course, PSU has a ton of outhouse campuses and they all count as PSU. Illinois has no equivalent. But still, except in the C-U area, I don’t see anything.
As a non-alum fan who grew up literally living and dying with Illini wins/losses, it should be Josh Whitman’s first and only goal to replicate MILLIONS of me … the rest will follow. Want proof?? Ask Michigan, OSU, PSU, Alabama, etc. - successful programs!! Alumni-only fan bases are Wake Forest or Seton Hall business. LOVE my Illini, and we need to get every fetus born in the Land of Lincoln to think the same since birth, haha.

There are certain posters on this board that need to open up their profile so I can put them on ignore..............

Just sayin.....................
Just right click and copy the profile link, paste it to your address bar, and then add "ignore" to the end of what you copied... you'll be able to toggle the ignore status of certain posters that way :)

Definitely falls asleep off ball and goes for bad reach attempts from time to time, but I feel like that’s pretty typical freshman stuff. He had some great moments on ball this year.

If they are second rounders this year then they will be no worse next year in the draft. Take the NIL for another year, get better and go next year. They are role players in college….how do you think they will make it right now in the pros? I think some buy into all this NBA talk too much with our players.
