Is actually possible that Miller would be having conversations with Illinois at the moment instead of prepping for a sweet sixteen game? Or do these coaches have agents who have all those discussions for them? Just seems like really odd timing or just a bunch of us bored on loyalty. lol

Sean isn’t having conversations right now lol … He has a press conference this afternoon and game prep …

Has he had discussions with his people and Illinois people … Have his people talked to Illinois people …

The world may never know …

Josh would have full booster approval to do what is necessary for Sean … Not every candidate would get that treatment but Sean would …
Maybe this is a tough question, but if you were to guess what would you think the percentage is that Brad will be back? Seeing how bought in to Sean Josh is, it seems like he is expecting Brad to leave. But I also could be interpreting this completely wrong.

Not really referring to this minute, but even during this week would seem unlikely. I would just picture him to be very focused on this game all week.

Sean wouldn’t take Pitt … What coach wouldn’t take UK if offered the job lol …

That doesn’t have much to do with loyalty …
As far as I am concerned, if you want a coach who is 100% loyal and always will be, you either have to limit your search solely to alumni, former players, and townies or else you have to be willing to live with a coach who isn't very in-demand for other jobs.

You're going to believe whatever you want even though the facts have been stated on here multiple times you just refuse to change your thoughts because they don't fit your narrative. You have no idea what goes on behind the scenes so I'm not gonna deal with dumbassery from you.

Sometimes it takes me an hour to get from my office garage to the Madison entrance to the Kennedy, so I’m guessing this may not be completely accurate
I call the entire state of Illinois Narnia and the part of my statement that doesn't ring accurate to you, an apparent Chicagoan, is the commute from Madison to the Kennedy. That's kind of my point 🤣🤣

But yeah, I hear you. Before covid my 8 mile drive down lake shore would take an hour and half on some days. *ptsd shivers*

The very first coaching clinic I ever went to had Sean Miller as a speaker about his pack line defense. It was either right after he got hired at AZ or after his first year. What stood out to me was the amount of detail he was able to pack and teach so clearly in an hour. I was always a deny defense coach, but about 5 years after that clinic my roster necessitated a move to the pack line. I still use those notes to this day when I use pack line principles. Truly one of the best sessions I’ve ever seen.

Of note because it’s relevant, BU’s were really good too.

Xavier isn’t a destination job … But it’s a top 25 job in CBB … Can’t convince me otherwise … Sean LOVES Xavier …

Illinois is better though … 😎
First: I agree.

Second: Was that still true before our return to relevance or had we lost our luster at that point?

Does whatever is necessary include buying out BU's contract? Doesn't Shad Khan already have an Illinois building named for him? We already know he's a sports fan, and I assume he is on JW's speed dial.

On the one hand, there is some precedent here. Whitman and the boosters bought out Cubit's contract in a manner that had pretty poor optics when Lovie Smith was available.

On the other hand, Underwood has done a lot more to earn his place than Cubit had.

‘Chicagoland’ and ‘Downstate’ is just the easy shorthand for identifying two regions within the same State that have very little in common with each other. It’s like two different countries entirely. One area that is more small-and-middle-town community and farm culture-ish... and the other a major metro area with all of it’s associated cultural offerings along with the big problems of a major city in today’s world.

That must have some factor (beyond the other shenanigans of ‘influence’) on why it’s been so hard over the years for Illini to get top talent out of Chicago. Ayo was a very pleasant deviation from the norm. Young people in Chicago just don’t have reasons to relate to ‘Downstate’ (all areas outsider Chicagoland) Illinois. How could they?

And when you get outside of Illinois these days you realize just how bad the reputation of Chicago and Illinois is. The general vibe is Chicago/Illinois = Corruption and a Place To Stay Away From. That’s what’s mostly on the Web and in general conversations with people you meet along the way.

How much this translates to challenges in further making the Illini program ‘Elite’ remains within the eye of the beholder. But this meme is definitely out there and strong.
I am originally from and now currently live in IL within the boundaries of the STL metro east. It really amazed me when I went to Illinois and then moved to Chicago about this perception of us down state folk as farmers. I've never met one farmer, have no family, friends, or acquaintances that have anything to do with farming. Are there farms down here? Yes. Are there farms all around upstate? Yes. Funny thing, when I was in school I had a friend from Wisconsin, and no one ever said anything to him about farm culture (that was saved for me) but much to their surprise, he was born and raised on a farm.

Every coach that’s wanted talks to other teams and their people during the tournament … Just part of it … Even if it’s just kicking the tires …
If that's the case, is Brad doing anything different than other coaches? And does Josh have any reason to be peeved by it?

I really do not for the life of me understand the people in here who get standoffish and bullish with the insiders. They don’t have to tell us a single thing, they’re being generous keeping us in the loop as much as they’re permitted to do. Either be grateful, or if you don’t like what they’re saying just keep scrolling. Not difficult people

Native Peorian and agreed. Contrary to Chicago lack of knowledge and ignorance (I say that also as a proud current Chicagoan who loves the city), Downstate is much more populated and much less rural than, say, Iowa.

I’d say yes and it was perceived as even better before Mike Thomas. I remember commentators calling it a top 10 job when we were looking for Weber’s replacement. While people still regarded it as a great spot, I also remember people generally being shocked when we nabbed Underwood.

Far too many people in this world believe their opinion holds as much weight as someone else's knowledge.

This. A thousand times this.

It’s become pretty clear over the years that these folks have the inside scoop. And processing that information is pretty simple: treat it as an accurate assessment of the facts as they currently stand and don’t be surprised if and when things change. They’ve earned our trust to this point and are valuable members of this board.

I mostly agree with you, but I also think this week has shown that at times they seem to enjoy dropping these little grenades and watching the masses scatter.
