Sean Miller and loyalty don't come to mind. If he had the opportunity, he would bolt for Pitt in a second and he would consider Kentucky if the opportunity came up. Underwood is a fine coach. Is he an elite coach, probably not. But what elite coach is coming to Illinois? I'll be waiting for your answer. Maybe you need to re-evaluate your expectations. Sounds like the same people who thought Shaka or Brad Stevens would come to Illinois. I for one, am happy that Shaka never set foot in Champaign.
LMAO! You're the Conjecture King, and you can do anything! For one, Pitt offered Miller a job YEARS ago. He turned them down. He's moved well beyond their level. For two, he was at Arizona for 12 seasons and left due to the FBI investigation. How is he not loyal? C'mon now. If you wanna be a chicken-little Illini fan, have at it. Just don't preach your low expectations to those of us that know better.

I wouldn't trust a coach who just got a 2nd chance from the program that gave him his big break and then he bolts for another program within 1-2 yrs. C'mon now? Does it really take much to read between the lines there?

My hope for Sean Miller is that he repays the loyalty to Xavier and stays there for a while

If someone offers to double your salary … Makes your job (recruiting) way easier with easily 15-20x more NIL in this case … Gives you one of the best teams (assistant coaches) in the country to help you do your job … Do you say not interested and don’t even take the call ?

Did you trust Underwood when Oklahoma State gave him his 1st P5 head coaching job, he left them after only 1 season? Not to mention he left behind an assistant embroiled in scandal to boot.

I know these aren't always accurate, but it says online he is making $5mil. Are you suggesting JW could come in at the $9 mil + mark? Or just speaking in general?

I just realized why Pru has such an upbeat attitude here. His Ignore game is elite.
I imagine Pru’s game threads are only about one page long…

Now , I have been a member since 2007 , but I have put more on ignore in the last year than ever before.....It's easy and better for your daily Loyalty pleasure..................

I REALLY REALLY DON'T...................................

Fire a coach that has brought your program back to relevance. Has won the most Big Ten games of any school in the last four years with 1 (cough 2) BIG Ten regular season championships, a BTT Championship, a #1 seed in the NCAA Tournament.

We've had some bad tournament luck and haven't advanced very far, I get it. But the rest of that stuff does matter. Fire a guy with that resume sets an awfully high bar for the next guy, and it doesn't look great firing a guy who has had a ton of success.

Seems to me it’s not about wins/losses anymore, it’s about egos.

Game threads are a no-no for me ......I tried it , I didn't like it ........I have a relapse from time to time , but 2-3 minutes in that cesspool reminds me why I don't do it...........I might give my opinion's at halftime but never follow word for word again.......

I feel so much better now that I avoid the neg's and emphasize the positive's ....fit's my glass half full optimistic make up.....

I have a few additional issues:

*Losing to practically every "rival" we have this season:
**Mizzou (x1) (most painful of all to me personally)
**Iowa (x1)
**Ohio State (x1)
**Northwestern (x1)
**Purdue (x1)
**Indiana (x2)
*Losing to Penn State 3 Times in one season
*Looking sloppy and disconnected most of the second half of this season
*Digging ourselves into huge first half holes all season
*Higher than expected season to season player turnover
*Higher than expected season to season AC turnover
*Frequent over-the-top dressing down of players during games

Regarding the last one, I'm 57; no millennial. As a confident and competent person, I don't respond to that. If we have players that are doing things that are so far off base from what you are asking them, sit them at the end of the bench and ignore them until they ask why they're there. Explain why. Rinse. Repeat once. Replace them with a walk-on.

I was a big BU supporter until this season, but the frustration I felt watching this team was mid numbing.

All that said, I still think BU could do big things here with some adjustments. But if you tell me you're in your dream position and then act otherwise, and we have an "elite" level replacement ready to sign on, sign me up.

Just imagine if he would have missed the NCAA tournament, and in the process lost to Toledo by 20 points, lost to Dayton in the NIT, and lost to every school on your list (and then some, including Michigan and MSU) that he played except Northwestern. Like Lou Henson did in his 7th season with the Illini ...

Well he doesn’t make $5 million … I can tell you that … I don’t know the exact amount he makes with all the incentives although I’m sure if I asked Sean or his people I could find out …

I know it’s a little over 3 million base for him at X … We’d be willing to dang near double that … 6 million ish …

Not shocking at all. Brad's base pay, according to the University Gray Book, is $4.1m. I could see Illinois ponying up a couple more million to land Miller (if it ever really came to that).

This is where I'm at. If this is our new floor (or at least close to it) under BU, then that's fantastic as long as he can continue to raise our ceiling to regularly be in the second weekend of the tournament and occasionally beyond.

If this is more the new normal then that's a problem, but we don't have nearly enough data to claim that.
I appreciate that take...if this is the floor that's really not too bad. However if, given that we like to view the program as "top 15-20 all-time, destination coaching job that pays in the top 10, advantageous facilities, very competitive in a great conference, etc." then this can't be the noew normal. But like you said it's too early to make that judgement.

Oklahoma St. is not a destination job. That is a stepping stone job. Brad has midwest ties and used to be a coach at Western IL. So, he had a vested interest in helping restore a once proud program that he had a lot of respect for. He has stuck to his word for 6 yrs now. I trust what he said when he first came here as should you.

I find it a surprising bummer when posters act surprised/skeptical that we could spend massive bucks. We already pay our two major coaches way more than their peers. And frankly, we are punching below our weight when you consider the size and wealth of our alumni base and the money in this state … in other words, we’re already big spenders, and we’re nowhere near our ceiling.

But Xavier is a destination job? Hey I get the stance that come on Xavier gave you a chance after you were thrown on the scrap heap, but let's also not ignore the fact that Xavier knows dang good and well they were able to get a top notch coach on the cheap too, and is currently reaping the benefit.

At the end of the day it's a business. A business with lots of money at stake.

Bingo and we’re WINNING in MBB, WBB, and FB now … People LOVE a winner … And will be more than willing to give more and more to win big and bigger …

I’m not going to release details but Josh knows how to get funds if he needs them … I’ll leave it at that …

Xavier isn’t a destination job … But it’s a top 25 job in CBB … Can’t convince me otherwise … Sean LOVES Xavier …

Illinois is better though … 😎

Is it actually possible that Miller would be having conversations with Illinois at the moment instead of prepping for a sweet sixteen game? Or do these coaches have agents who have all those discussions for them? Just seems like really odd timing or just a bunch of us bored on loyalty. lol
