Many of those that left did so after their freshman year. The take that after they transferred they have not developed after one or two years into some u realistic expectation is a bit distorted.
If our staff program is a “development program, (as repeatedly stated by BU), then their development should be evaluated after 3, 4, or 5 years. (development program indicates ‘long term’ - not one and done). Ex: a player that comes ranked as a high three * but leaves after year one is not an NBA lottery pick one year after transfer is ridiculous. Let’s see how it plays out long term….since we are a development program, signing players that need to develop. Seriously…..common sense.
The fact of the matter is that we are losing a lot of players after their first year (or two)....These are highly rated prospects that we have either poorly evaluated, poorly developed, or are discontented with our program.
If you want to argue the numbers (how many players) are in the portal, there are far more players from non-P5 schools trying to compete at our level, as well as many grad transfers.
The question should be asked why we seem to have top100-150 rated players that are leaving so quickly.
We shouldn’t be comparing our 4* freshman transfers to mid major and below sophomores and juniors wanting to make the ‘big show’ in CBB.
Too many people drinking O&B elixirs.
Oregon literally just lost a freshman 5 star 7 footer to the portal. Players leave everywhere. The only one who’s left and done anything is Podz, and he went down to mid major to do it.

Then mayhaps you'd care to enlighten those of us thinking you brought up squirrels during a discussion about cats
Ayo the “Squirrel” came here as a skinny kid from Chicago. He stuck around for three years. Listened to the coaching staff. Took the yelling and MFing like a man. Didn’t get all butt hurt. Didn’t sit on the bench pouting like a child. Worked his a$$ off. Year three he was first team AA. Year four he was an NBA starting guard in his home town. Outside of Ayo the “Squirrel” and Podz the “Cat” how much have progress have the other cats shown? That was my point.

Love the roster so far:

Amani Hansberry
Dra Gibbs-Lawhorn
Luke Goode
Dain Dainja

Excited Lets Go GIF by Mind Pump Media

So it looks like we need a 3:

Amani Hansberry - at the 4
Dra Gibbs-Lawhorn - at the 1
Luke Goode - His natural 2
Dain Dainja - at the 5

Nuke - the conversation was “how many transfers (or transfer guards specifically) have flourished after leaving Brad, which would imply that Brad has a problem keeping and/or developing guards.

You chose to answer by saying Ayo is the only other player who made a leap under Brad, which A) wasn’t the question, B) makes no sense when combining with Podz, who made a leap post-Brad (original question), and C) is just flat out incorrect, as Trent became a much more complete guard under Brad, and Damonte went from borderline unplayable on offense to one of the most efficient offensive guards in basketball (though not high volume). You could argue Feliz and Plummer both made “leaps” under BU as well.

Podz was the worst defender of the freshmen and was told so. He moved on. Sky was a turnover machine and sat on the bench in our win over UCLA. Thought is was too much to take and left. Epps refused to go back in at the end of a game. So long. This is a game where teams win games, not one person. This tournament shows that more than ever.

The UCLA game wasn't led to Sky's departure. He played 28 minutes in that one and was on the floor to end it. He had 5 points, 2 rebounds, and an assist in the final three minutes. I was so excited about him after that one. Two weeks later however, I was concerned.

Sorry, it may have been the Texas game I was thinking of.

Ok I am obviously not expressing myself well. OP Calvin said “Serious question: how many guys who've left under BU made a significant step forward at their new destination?” (copy and pasted so as not to misquote). This is what I was responding to. He said “left.” No use of the word “transfer” or “guard”. (Ayo and Podz are guards by the way). I never meant to imply that the guards who stuck around did not improve. Quite the opposite. I was trying to use Ayo as an example of what can happen if you stay the course and put in the work. Obviously I didn’t get that across well. I apologize. I am an aging steelworker with sore fat thumbs. Anything beyond three characters is a real challenge for me. Hence the initial short response. Now please excuse me while I try to find some Advil.

Don't want to dump on a former player, but I think neither improved since they left, at least not looking at them statistically. Maybe in a category or two, but overall efficiency looks down a bit.

Serious question: how many guys who've left under BU made a significant step forward at their new destination?
In all honesty outside of Podz not a single one.

For the sake of just getting it off my chest my biggest tin foil hat theory I have in my brain was that Skyy was planning on leaving the program regardless of how the season shook out.

(Other than NIL) Based on the fact that he wanted to work with Fletch because as we know, he is the absolute best S&C coach in the country. The work he has down with countless players since his arrival and body transformations was a huge sell for rehabbing his knee.

There I said it and tin foil hat can come off. Best of luck to Skyy else where.
