I don't see it at all, that's why it's a weird choice for me. All of our targets for that spot have seemed to be in that mold too, bar the Hunter pipe dream.

Justin Harmon is a stretch as a lead guard too.

I have great faith in the PG process to give us a more reliable option than we had last year. I like Domask as a replacement for RJ and some of what Mayer provided as well.

But the roster as a whole seems to be developing some of the same imbalances it had last year, and that's leaving aside the longer term concern that all the minutes will be going to one-and-dones.

Perhaps in terms of size, but were among the top 15 in rebounding margin (among power 5 schools) last season despite not being particularly tall. Regardless of who we add, we will be a much more experienced team than last year, which should go a long way in addressing the team's inconsistency and sloppiness.

These one-and-done 5th year guys won't be pushed around on defense very often. If there is going to be significant roster churn every off-season regardless of who you bring in and how much they play, why not target guys who are mentally and physically mature?

The ideal lineup looks like this:
RayJ
Shannon
Ty/Domask
Guerrier
Coleman

Ty/Domask
Dain
Goode
Sencire
Harmon
Amani
Does this mean that between Tyger and RayJ, RayJ is the more preferred option or more likely option?

last year we were not particularly tall at center but our other 4 positions we were above average length.

That's college basketball now. Reload every year. When your a 59 year old coach who has pressure to win in the tourney, getting a bunch of old, talented veterans will help with this
I always appreciate the info and opinions, and I'll preface this question by saying I really like BU despite being quite frustrated with the culture/makeup of this past season's team...Does it feel a bit like BU is chasing the "flavor of the month" in wanting to "get old"? A strange, wild NCAA tourney yields a couple of older lower seeds in the finals and now we're going to try to replicate that? I know that NIL and free agency has really changed the landscape but I hope BU is not overlooking building a team and culture with complementary pieces and individuals who fit/embrace the culture he wants.

How has young-oriented Kentucky faired the last few years?

I feel like we have a lot of tweener players, which is good in theory but also puts you at a disadvantage when you have teams that are really great at something and we can't stop it.

I also lament the death of 4-year single-team player and would gladly take a down year to get kids a year older and a year better as a team. Picking up talent for now and sacrificing the talent we get in loss of development is not the right way to go. We want our team to be old, but you want them to be old together and old in the system. Sacrificing our shiny new toys in hopes of quick gains isn't tenable.

Projecting talent and forecasting scholarships and getting excited about watching kids grow is my favorite part of college sports. I guess that's mostly dead now, and that's ok. It's not bad, it's just different.

Disclaimer: I'm not an old.

I'm not arguing it's the wrong approach / that it won't be successful - we'll ultimately see. I'll contrast it with Bielema, who seems to have a thorough plan that he is executing against (we'll also see how that works), and 2 seasons ago I would have said the same about BU, but last year / this year seem to be more reactionary and grabbing for what looks shiny. I'm likely way off base.

Edit: should also say, there's some space between playing 5 new freshman every year (UK) and going after a team full of grad transfers (not that you were saying there isn't)

If he shoots better from three next year and cuts down on the turnovers, he will be a early second round pick at worst
That was the company line last year.

I hope he declares and goes to combine and gets more feedback.

Personally I think a guy with his mobility and Mike Davis's 10 foot jump shot would be killer.

I appreciate that my friend … Just try to share the info I’m privileged to get … No reason for me to charge anything … I’ve been approached many times about joining a subscription based site … and there’s a reason why I never will …

I’m sure there are quite a few guys on here who share this info with their young kids or even some younger guys/girls on here who love the Illini and recruiting in general that just don’t have the $$ to pay for a subscription …

Also a quick story I got from someone on here and I won’t out who they are but they shared this with me not that long ago … They said that they along with their father have been illini fans their entire life but didn’t always see eye to eye … Hadn’t spoken in years … Well their fathers health was declining and they decided to try and make peace … And every week this person would go in to see their father and talk to them about the things that were talked about on here from me and many others … Players we might add, who we were recruiting, etc. … If I had dropped a “boom” gif recently … I mean it’s stories like those that make me really appreciate this place we’ve got … Theres always going to be negativity in life but never forget the impact you can have on people you don’t even know … :shield:

Cheers GIF by SYFY
We all appreciate the info you post👏👏👏

Don’t be shocked if we add Quincy … Add a PG right after the NFL draft … First part of May like I said last night and we’re done …

Just waiting on TJ and Coleman at that point …
man, if can get that pg and TJ/Coleman return along with this addition, we are going to be really good. The PG is main difference last year and adding that many vets that seem to play team ball, watch out.

I'm assuming shiny new toys means young players with high potential? What young players are you suggesting we go get? And if you do end up with these young players how do you keep them here for more than a year?
How did Epps and Skyy work out?
Last year was the tweener team. This year is different. There is a clear focus with this team and it's to be competitive in March.
