Wouldn’t shock me one bit … He’s one that you’ve got to take if he wants to come but know you’re going to recruit over …

Also a little frustrating because it seems every guy Geoff is after … We miss on … Nothing against the guy but it’s a trend …
I thought I heard certa really wanted us. Did we not want him back or is he choosing ND over us?

I am genuinely confused by the Ty Rodgers slander. I know it’s not everybody but there seems to be a decent contingent of people who do not appreciate his value- those of which clearly did not watch this team all season. Especially those saying they didn’t see him take ANY jump shots the whole year. He did. Did he make many? No. In fact he made 0 of his very few 3 point attempts at the beginning of the year.

Ty Rodgers was our most efficient player in many games this year- he is a matchup nightmare who can guard almost anyone. As a freshman, he exceeded expectations of those who understand the game of college basketball, and that’s why people talk so highly of him. If you were watching the games you’d notice that when a former basketball star was on color commentary, no matter who it was, he LOVED Ty Rodgers. His ceiling is insanely high. Yes, his jumpshot is worse than half the people I play pickup with, but he is a decent jumper away from being first team all big-ten. You don’t love this team if you don’t love its players and you don’t love its players if you don’t believe that.

John Scheyer said a long time ago. Why go to Illinois to compete for BIG championships if I can go somewhere to compete for national championships. Well he was right apparently. When is our fanbase going hold our program to higher standards? We act like we are a blue blood, but defend our program that can't get to a sweet 16. Programs across the country have turned nothing into something. We have turned something into average. If we can't be thick skinned enough to hold our leaders to higher standards, then we need to root for Northwestern.
What are you talking about? Where have you been the last 15 years? BU took a muddling program and has the best conference record the last three years, the most road wins over the last three years, a Big Ten regular season championship (should have been two) and a Big Ten Tournament championship.
You're going to complain about not winning one more game in the tournament vs the expectations that he's set amongst the fan base? Before he got here, if we were on the right side of the bubble, it was a celebration. Now, if we're not a top 4 seed or have a top 15 recruiting class, there's a meltdown.

Reevaluate and think things through before you spew pure craziness.

Slow day at work…I hope this brings the good news we’re waiting for, and that some of y’all find this even half as amusing as I do 🤣

Funny….I was hungover after watching that game 🤣
I think the funniest (saddest) part of that first Penn State game was that the entire team was hungover thinking PSU would be a nothing burger game. Heard the fellas were out celebrating a players bday and may have had a bit too much fun...

is DGL fully aware that he probably won’t be playing tons of meaningful minutes this year short of major injury problems?
I am excited to have a talented freshman point guard joining our team. If anything has taught us over the past 3-4 years. Players get sick, Injured, and suspended unfortunately. So having 3 guards for the Point is essential in continuing to have a successful season. DGL, will be fine!

Oh yeah they were out til 4am
I know kids are kids and the season is over and we should be able to laugh about this. But this really rubs me the wrong way. Go out and celebrate after the game. I hope the lesson was learned by the players that it is completely unnecessary to put themselves in that position.

I'm definitely annoyed at them but I get it. In college, I missed work at least once because I was too hung over but I didn't have 16,000 people watching me wait tables so my mistake received far less coverage.

Where are you seeing that? Personally, I'm not sold on him (but I'm no expert). I think he can be a good off-the-bench shooter, similar to Sean Harrington. But I don't see him being a main cog in this program.
Wrong. He's much better than that.

Ty was the best rebounder of missed offensive free throws that I have seen in a long time. He hauled in and converted a bunch last year. God knows the way we shot free throws he had lots of opportunities. That is all heart, hustle and IQ. I will take those 3 things all day. Kid is going to be a good one for the beloved.

lets hope Ty doesn't decide he can show his stuff somewhere else after next year. If i had to put somebody on the NIL watch
right now it might be him.

I don't see much slander here. Most (myself included) are just saying that he's not likely to be our backup PG. He's a very promising player, and we all love his intensity, but he's not a PG.

PG is the most important position on the floor. You need to have the right guy there. Rodgers strengths are rebounding, defense, and interior scoring. He's not a good outside shooter and he's a downright bad FT shooter. While it's possible he develops his perimeter skills, a coach would be crazy to rely on him as a PG option in the near future.

Also, sagging off a guy like Ty, with his passing ability and his ability to drive, is a bad idea. Leaving a good passer wide open to pick his passes will lead to easy baskets. And giving Ty a head of steam or open lane to drive will lead to layups and fouls (which are bad for opponents, whether or not Ty makes his freethrows). They may not have to guard him all the way to the three point line, but if they don't guard him, it will be good for Illinois.
Well said. Did anyone not watch the Purdue game where Ty’s man (Edey) sagged off of him and Ty went around and set so many picks that Illinois dribblers were able to get any shot they wanted to in second half? Arguably Ty’s movement on offense was the biggest factor in us coming back to nearly win.
