What is all this Woodbury talk ?
An alleged CollegeBB analyst site (of which there are hundreds) indicated Illinois was looking at him and they claimed they got permission to report that.
Might just be some guy in his basement. But that is 95% of the internet.

So if that is invalid then needs to be clarified as a nothngburger.

All these things can be true at the same time:

1. Brad is a really good coach
2. The program is miles better than it was the previous 10 years.
3. Progress has stagnated for he program the last 3 years.
4. Results should be among the top 10 programs for a coach paid among the top 10 highest paid coaches.
5. Success/Progress isn’t linear
6. Results in 20-21 and 21-22 season were among the top 10 programs in the country unless you focus solely on the results of a single elimination tournament
7. 22-23 was rebuilt on the fly as we entered Portal Kombat era of CBB.
8. Placed chips on a kid who didn’t want to be here, but would appear to give us a final four caliber roster for 23-24. As it stands today we’re probably on the right side of the bubble, but not set up for a deep run without something really clicking or a very favorable draw
9. None of this will keep his seat from getting warm without sustained post season success, just ask mid 2000’s Bill Self

Okay, yeah…fair. I can see that, now.
That wasn’t my intention.

It’s the scenario that got me. 😆 That’s all.

LOL totally get it though. It does sound ridiculous. Hopefully coaches have better tact and acumen than that. :ROFLMAO: I also have said previously, but am also not totally blind to the other side of my argument, which is that while we aren't head coaches we can still be knowledgeable fans with reasonable and sometimes even justifiable concerns.

We won our first official conference title in 17 years 2 years ago. Come on now with this timeline. We had 1 down year so far. And even with that down year we still have the best record in the conference over the last 4 years.

I know most don’t care, but count me in the camp that is happier with this outcome of no Ray J. I do not fault the kid at all for looking out for himself, but after the Utah stuff I just got the feeling he isn’t in it for team. I’m probably wrong, but that is just me.
I like BU and hope he stays a long time, it is nice to look at the menu, but we can’t lose focus of what we do have. I’m surprised he put all his eggs in the Ray J basket and for a guy who really needs a second weekend, you can’t get left empty handed. The players have a lot of power, but you can’t let them run the asylum.

We need a point no question, we need shooters, but we were also 3rd in the B1G in ppg last year, our defense sucked last year. I think we’ve upgraded there.

247 Michigan guy says we’re in the mix for Reeves with Michigan, Memphis, Indiana and Oklahoma.

That CBBRoundup Twitter account says us and Memphis are the top two, followed by IU. But I believe that’s the same account that reported our interest in Woodbury, so not sure how much to trust it.

I wouldn’t lump Skyy and DGL together as freshman PGs - they are very different players

Skyy was looking to get his points while DGL is a very good ball handler/quick penetrating PG and will just look to run the offense his freshman year- him getting 7-8 min per game as PG2 would not be a bad thing

The team 3 years ago was better than the team 2 years ago, and the team last year was worse than the team 2 years ago. Claiming that progress ahs stagnated doesn't mean instant garbage, it means it's been a concerning dip in results after a top end of 1 seed that crashed out before the Sweet 16.

Quite literally no team in the conference has been better than us over the past 4 years.

While true, it's the results outside of the conference slate that need to improve. At some point, there needs to be more than the narrative "Well, the Big Ten just can't win in the NCAA tournament". The entire conference has been dismal, but that doesn't excuse the Illinois program from their own subpar showings, and that's the end of things that just needs to improve.

Not an insider but I have a tough time finding that credible as if it winds up that Williams needs a longer recovery time or gets injured, Harmon is probably best suited to be our de facto PG in our PG by committee if we aren't bringing in anyone else. Harmon came here when we were expecting to sign and play RayJ 30-35min a game. By going with Williams, he should expect more minutes and an expanded role, not less, and if we do have questions/injury concerns/form issues with Williams, Harmon being on the roster will become a more valuable commodity to us that previously anticipated. Just my two cents
I agree with what your saying, but has Harmon been accepted to school and enrolled? Reason for not making it through the door might not be basketball related. I have no idea, just another side to your two coins.

Does anyone know if Williams will

1. Have a waiver to be able to play 2023-2024
2. Even if he does get a waiver, be healthy enough to contribute during any point of 2023-2024?

That's great but I will take middle of the pack in the conference with sustained success in March/April all day long. I don't care how many games we win in the Big Ten. I want tournament success.
It's crazy to me that people would basically rather take down banners if it meant we won 1 more game in the NCAA tournament over the past 4 years. Yes, I'd love for more success in the NCAA tournament, but you better believe I love being the best team in the conference, too.

If he can be guided to running the offense and playing under control, he’ll get some minutes. And not be a liability on defense.

His time on the court will almost certainly be predicated on his defense, and right now, it seems he has a very very long way to go on that end of the court. If he shows up coachable, works his butt off, and comes out with a defensive fire to him, he will see some minutes this year. That said, based on his tape and what the insiders have been saying, that seems like a longshot and so I wouldn't expect much of any minutes for him, even considering the state of the current roster. And one other thing- while he does certainly show explosiveness, athleticism, and offense on his tape, the overall defense played in OTE is extremely low quality, so it'll be a very big transition to B10 ball on that side of the floor also. All in all, there is a place where he could earn decent minutes on this roster, but he'd have to make a huge jump to get there, which seems unlikely in year 1.
Not only defense but ability to set up the offense without turning the ball over. That plus defense imo are the 3 biggest things a freshman point guard must do to play.
