Imo I'm not the biggest fan of not going for Paul. They are really rolling the dice with that-They feel Ty, DGL, Sincere, TSJ, etc can play pg by committee. The passing should be improved with some of the guys we brought in, but it's all about if the pg play can be decent enough. That will be the difference this year between being just in the top 25 or a top 10-15 team in the country.

They really like Reeves, but it won't be easy to land him. Think we have a pretty decent shot though
If we end up having to play PG by committee again I’m going to have to see a therapist.

Discussions were had, they prefer Reeves. Will make a huge push for him, and the Chicago ties will help
What's the reason for preferring Reeves? Do they like Rodgers enough they think he can play point?

Start something like Reeves, Shannon, Domask, Rodgers, Hawkins? I just don't see how you get Reeves without promising a bunch of playing time and with the roster that would likely involve Williams taking more of a backup role.

Imo terrible move by staff to not go after Paul. Fits what we need way more than Reeves.
It's strange to be sure. Do you know the reasoning here- is it pressure from the boosters, that Mulcahey just isn't interested in Illinois, or that the staff just thinks we're better without him? To be fair, seemed like a longshot at best to land him, but still weird the staff decided a Williams coming off of injury is the only PG we're bringing in.

So I guess that does it then. All our eggs now in the hopefully Williams is healthy enough to play. That seems really wishful to me. Can't imagine CoHawk or TSJ is taking this well.
Has to be more in play here, right? I can't imagine the staff is taking this well.

They went strong after Ray J, stating that PG was the biggest and most pressing need for next years team. Missed out on him, and now seem okay with what they have?????

I like the Williams pick up for the future possibilities, but now? Maybe.
Is the staff really okay with the team as it sits to not go strong for everyone and anyone out there who can play PG at this point?
Maybe they are and we just don't know it?
Time for a few Beers.

I agree, really bizarre and depressing news. Mulcahy would be a nearly perfect fit (better than Dennis IMO). Of course, I don't know everything going on (maybe they know Mulcahy isn't interested so no need to pursue).

PG by committee is generally pretty awful, unless it's Deron, Dee and an occasional Luther. But those guys (at least Dee and Deron) were legitimate PGs. The only legit PG on the roster as of now is Williams who's coming off a very serious injury and may not even be eligible. Oh and two FR not ranked in anyone's top 100.

I'm also guessing the pursuit of Reeves means Harmon's not getting in. They supposedly love Harmon, but if he can't get in, then adding Reeves makes some sense.

I realize the staff has way more info than the board, but from the outside this point guard "search" has been ugly to say the least. I can't believe the staff feels Ty is the answer there. So you're gonna rely on a guy who by all accounts struggles shooting from deeper than 3-5 ft and has never to my knowledge run point? I love his potential at the 2/3, but at the 1??? Maybe Williams is fully healthy and is a for sure from admissions and NCAA? Just seems like Mulcahy was a much better fit than Reeves, who seems like a prototypical 2. I'm confused, but it's not the first time for sure.

And this is why I never officially wavered on hating Paul. Would have waited until the bigger end in the event this happened
Why would you hate a kid that we apparently are not pursuing?

I think this staff needs to get their act together here.
The guys we bring in who are point guards are either too small or hurt or ineligible.

I watched 7-8 of UK's games last year and Reeves was not a major contributor in the offense , other than shooting 3 pointer's.....

Spent most of his time outside of the arc and had very little dribble drives towards the rim.....

We need a PG , not another chucker from the cheap seats....................JMHO..............

To be fair he shot 40% on 6 attempts per game so not really a chucker

Regarding Paul….the staff wants a shooter. And they are really happy with what they have seen from Ty running PG for stretches of the game. Also they don’t think Paul is going to go anywhere inside the conference. Was hard for him to leave Rutgers. He loves that place and Steve.

I fail to see the logic in that decision by the staff. At the very least, kick the tires to see if he has interest; if not, no harm done. But don't potentially lose a proven B1G-caliber PG for a player that may become available

Well they didn’t just assume this with PM….also reeves will become available. He’s enrolled at ISU for online summer classes.

That would make more sense to me. Disappointing but understandable.

They did kick the tires. It was not as well received as they originally thought it would be. Don't think he's staying in conference

Well I wish they would have made a push towards Paul. However, TA knows Williams and others here very well. BU knows what he has too. Williams likely being here three years after transfering will be a plus as he gets better. One thing Reeves can do is shoot and I would love that too. It could really spread the floor. I just hope we can land Reeves if we pass on Paul.
