I said it in one of the other threads - I feel like the last few seasons we've had a guy or two that we were convinced were going to be amazing in the upcoming season, all hyped up, and they just didn't deliver (or didn't even play). So it only makes sense to me, that DGL, the one everyone has been like, "Yeah he'll be on the bench all year, probably transfer after that," is going to be great as our starting PG all year.
😬😬😬. Interesting take

Mast played 9 minutes a game.

My point is Sergio was a lot better player overall than Rodgers and it didn't work. It's not likely going to work with Rodgers. He is a 3. Nice guy off the bench.
Are we comparing Sergio as a sophomore with Ty as a freshman?

The kid is tiny so I get the glaring pessimism and I’m personally not high on him but he is very athletic and clearly has talent so who knows

Staff can't go from PG is our biggest need to a week later we now have it covered.

Sergio as a freshman: 3.5pts, 3.1reb, 1.6ast per game, in 16.5 min. 38% field goal, 16% 3pt, 43% FT.
Ty as a freshman: 3.3pts, 4.0reb, 1.0ast per game, in 17.1 min. 51% field goal, 0% 3pt, 38% FT.

Amazingly similar production, so I'm not sure "Sergio was a lot better player overall than Rodgers" is a defensible statement. Both are smart players, both are multi-dimensional, and both (as freshmen) have/had more to prove offensively.

Of course, this is not any evidence that Ty should play point. But then he had the ball in his hands a lot in high school. Ty as a senior in high school averaged 15.3pts, 13.9rbs, and 7.3ast. Sergio was never close to those assist numbers, because he had Frank playing PG for his last three years of high school. Maybe he could have been dishing 7 assists a game, but I doubt it.

Is the staff confident everyone can switch on defense? Ty crashing the O glass could create mismatches, pick and roll against him could as well. Staff has to be confident in that or at least convincing themselves they are
I hope we can switch when necessary and switch everything, but in my opinion the switch everything is fools gold unless you have a special team. Remember how we were going to switch everything last year and we got absolutely torched and scrapped it? I do, that Mizzou game put the nail in the coffin for that defense.

They can switch when Coleman plays the 5. Ty also won’t guard the other teams 1 or 2. Will probably guard their 3 or 4
Am I correct in saying our starting lineup as of now will be Rodgers, Shannon, Domask, Guerrier, Hawkins?

If yes, the defense here doesn't make sense if Ty only guards other teams' 3/4 since Shannon is the only one here quick enough to guard guards. Domask mainly guarded 4s with some 3s and doesn't have great foot speed at all. Rodgers will need to guard the opposing teams 1 or 2. We don't have RJ's or Mayer's speed or athleticism anymore; we're just not as switchable next season.

Yeah my concern is just causing mismatch issues with certain teams having to make our two guard or three guard defend their PG if Ty can’t

Sencire is literally the only one on the team (not counting Williams until he is cleared both medically and eligibility wise) that can guard an opposing PG. That seems like a problem.

Sencire was on the floor when we played some top teams, not saying he is the answer to the PG position but likely will close that gap. He has earned his minutes and will play, we just don't have anyone on the team with his elite speed. Like I said before, he might be our top pro prospect. His combination of size for his position and speed set him apart. He needs to develop a shot and ability to get his layups. For those calling furbar on me, he created havoc for a top 10 UCLA team as a freshmen. There were times BU should have played him more.

In this day and age how do players get to Div 1 Power 5 conferences and still have significant work to do on their shooting?

How does that even happen??????
