That’s not fair to Miller who played great as a freshman, deferred to Ayo, and left because he said he wanted a coach who trusted him and would let him play combo guard.

Curbelo’s issues seemed to either start at Illinois, or compound to the point of being a problem. Either way BU and his staff brought him in.

This is all besides my point - look at that list - 80% of 4 star PG/CGs they bring in all have fatal character flaws and it’s not the staffs fault?
It does appear we need to do a better job of vetting our roster, certainly. I agree with that. I think Domask especially was probably an attempt at finding some coachability/stability…I could be wrong but I am thinking being a coaches kid he likely has a good head on his shoulders.

Williams is very “iffy” The injury alone…then these other mystery personal issues…etc.
We’ve had enough of that drama.

I don’t agree with your stance on Miller.
I don’t think he’s a bad kid. Yes, he probably had people in his camp blowing smoke. But I’m not quite sure that completely makes me wanna give him a pass.

He played okay as a freshman not great. He had 2-3 really great games and quite a lot of ho hum ones. The kid started EVERYGAME as freshman. That’s not enough belief in him? That’s not enough of a seal of approval?

His skill set was properly assessed by the staff IMO. Even at LSU he was mostly utilized how we utilized him…as a spot up shooter.

He might develop into someone with combo guard capabilities at some point.
But at the time…I’d have to concur with the staff and say he had shooting guard written all over him.

Agree. Miller was given the green light at LSU shot poorly, and was not anything remotely approaching a combo guard. More TOs than Assists.
At Illinois if you take away his early big game shooting threes vs some directional school his shooting from three was subpar.
I think he actually dribbled the basketball about 10 times the whole season. Nobody stopped him from attacking close outs. He couldn't do it.
He had potential for sure.
His family thought he was one and done level.

Felt we need a John Paxton or Steve Kerr type guard. Kerr Krisa fits the bill.
No one else gas a glaring hole at PG and a bag of NIL.

Because all the other commentary on loyalty is “quality”? Maybe someone should post more women in bikinis to make up for my unworthy opinions. Thanks for your sanctimonious insight tho
Maybe I’m off but I don’t think he was being sarcastic referring to you as a quality new member.

Complacent was probably the last thing Weber was. He tried damn hard to recreate 2005, he just struggled being able to identify and recruit players to fit into his system. It was missing out on some key recruiting battles, followed by the Jamar Smith incident, and stubbornness to stick with his offensive system when his players couldn't grasp it that caused the downfall. Complacency doesn't get you to the Sweet 16 at 3 different schools.
The Jamar Smith incident is what torpedoed Bruce. He would have coached at Illinois for a long time had that not happened. He would have carried on and possibly cemented the narrative that Illinois is where guards that can shoot come to flourish. I have watched Illinois religiously since 1982, and Jamar, for me, is the biggest “what if”… not only for him as a player, but also for the program at the time.

The Richmond recruit did not help Weber nor did the McCamey PG fiasco ... lets not forget the Gordon messup with then Indiana coach Sampson.

I agree. The bikini pics are a welcome distraction from dumb posts.

pru realized a long time ago that too many posters here think their opinions are the answer , pru included.....taking a more lighthearted approach to the world of Fighting Illini programs lessens the sorrow when disappointing results are incurred.......

These "fire Brad" folks just make me laugh. The NCAA tourney has always been about who is hot at the end and who gets favorable matchups. We all want Illinois to reach the promised land and win a natty. But, you've got to get there to win. What Brad Underwood has done in his brief time here is amazing. He brought UI out of the worst stretch of basketball they've seen since before Lou Henson turned the program around in the 80's. Underwood has brought us to a point where we are a destination for great talent, we challenge for championships in the Big Ten every year, and we are in the mix of a top four NCAA tourney seed. No one could ask for more. Unless you are Connecticutt or Villanova then you have a complaint about NCAA results over the last 10 years. Last year definitely showed why the success of programs can't be based solely on NCAA results.

Firing Brad Underwood would put us back in the Groce era. No one wants that.

I hadn't heard that Groce was at the top of the head coach list if we lose Brad, but I'm not an insider.

Kerr Krisa 6-3 PG plays heavy minutes.. 30+ mjn/game. 10 pt, 5 asst, 37% 3pt%.

I think he will seek his release and don't see how the school/NCAA can deny it.

Weber certainly had to endure more than his share of off-court misadventures with his players who seemed to make more than their share of poor decisions.

But he was on thin ice either the Kansas fans after the Bucknell and Bradley disasters. Pretty sure they’re happy now they didn’t cut him loose before his fifth year in 2008.

Surrounding those two upsets, he made the Elite 8 in his 1st and 4th years at Kansas. He also had won 3 straight conference titles. That's a little bit different than Brad's resume.

Well the party line for next year will be that with Morez coming in the Illini will be a magnet for next year's portal talent. Time will tell if that pans out but I think that's a better bet than firing Brad and then having Morez transfer as a result.
So we are banking on an incoming #46 freshman being the recruiting sale for portal talent? 😂 We have two NBA possible players this year and can't get guys here.

I had completely forgotten about Reggie Bass...Let's look him up and...oh....great:

Bass earned MAC 2023 Freshman Player of the Year. Bass started in 28 of the 30 games he participated in averaging 12.4 ppg, 3.3 apg, and 3.6 rpg. Bass became a key role in the Chippewas offense, averaging 26 points in his last five games of the season, including a career-high 40 points, and set a school record for most free throws in a game at 21 against NIU on Feb. 25
Jesus Christ. Didn't we back off him because he had attitude issues?
