Lol. I do know him a little bit, but actually more his sister.
Really a good guy. Yeah, huge homer.
Nothing wrong with being a big advocate for Illinois.
I wonder if Ked has considered writing other types of fan fiction.

His assists per game are relatively low (ish) b/c he has never played more than 22 min/game. His assists per 40 and assist ratio are relatively good.

I'd take him in a heartbeat. It's not like he has expectations of playing 30 min/game wherever he goes. We need a ball handling guard that isn't a minus on D and can set guys up. Sure, he's got a glaring hole in his game -- lack of shooting -- but any available player right now has warts. I'd take him as the guard insurance we wish we'd had last year and, best case scenario, we need him less than anticipated. Worst case scenario = he plays a lot = our other (current) guard options are even worse than him = thank God we at least have him onboard.
Yea let’s just lock this one down. If it’s true that KK wants more money than TSJ, than this is the better bang for your buck option and we really shouldn’t prolong this PG search any longer.

Just please stop with the Kerr is a bad teammate and locker room cancer. It simply isn’t true. If Underwood doesn’t want him, then fine, but let’s not act like it would be because he’s a headcase. Kid was clearly going to be losing minutes and probably got a better NIL deal than Arizona was going to give him. Plus he wasnt 100% in that Princeton game but still was on the floor. If the kid committed to Illinois, he would be the best option at point guard day one. Let’s not kid ourselves. DGL better be the next Trae Young if you're hoping for a better point guard to be on Illinois this year.

This article posted after the season clearly identifies that Lloyd wanted him gone.

Not a fair piece at all. Yeah, Krissa struggled in the tournament. Playing with a separated shoulder will cause you to do that. Regardless of the injury, he made no excuses. While Arizona might have been trying to recruit over Kerr, there's no indication that he wouldn't contribute a ton to our team or that "Lloyd wanted him gone."

I am on the fence if we should get KK and without inside knowledge of the NLI game it is hard to know for sure

Cons:
His NLI deal may cause issues in the locker room. Can we consistently keep up the NLI dollars year after year. Would other players need their deals restructured?

He will take minutes away from players like Harris Ty DGL AH because KK will be on the floor and there are only 4 other spots. Not getting younger players on the floor may hurt development and retention. Also if you have a player who is legitimately outperforming expectations it might not be worth adding him

Pros
Look at his stats and look at how he plays healthy. You put him TSJ CH and two other players on the floor. You have a team capable of beating anyone.

Do you really trust the coaching staff saying how good a player is in the offseason?

Do you bet the bank to win this year? If you make elite 8 or better it is a worthy investment. Or do you think your current roster is capable of a S16 run. Because losing will also stop the NLI payments in the future

Addressing the cons listed here, Shannon and Hawkins had plenty of options to play professionally overseas and earn a decent living regardless of their actual current NBA prospects. When they made the decision to return, I'm believing it was with the idea to win right now...not to have to deal with point guards learning the position on them and inhibiting the team's success this year. I'm feeling that they're going to be okay with whatever needs to take place in order to complete this team so that they can spend their all-but-certainly last season contending for a B1G championship and ready for a deep NCAA tournament run. If it means throwing whatever dollars are needed at Kerr, my feeling is that they'd be okay with it. I'm going to clearly state here that I'm no insider, and this is pure conjecture on my part.

A couple questions for whomever knows:

1. The word we got earlier was the Coleman (and I suspect TSJ) didn't want to repeat the "freshman point guard" experiment. Was that more about THESE particular freshman, who apparently had issues being bought in and/or running the offense Underwood called? Was it their attitude, or their physical ability to run the play and make the decisions/passes they need to make? Would Ty's apparent team-first attitude and their experience with him as a teammate address that? Or is it that ANY inexperienced PG will be an issue? Said another way: If Ty and/or DGL are bought in, doing what they are instructed, putting the team first, but still making more mistakes than an experienced "pro" would make, will that be acceptable to the players?

2. NIL and the above-the-table payment system is new (though I know a lot of this was already going on). What is the realistic likelihood that if Underwood (and the team, and donors) are asking, and asking again, for NIL monies to secure a "big name" transfer, and they don't work out, that donors/contributors will start reducing their funding? I mean, on the surface that seems inevitable: if you contribute money, you expect results. If you contribute and the players don't perform, or the team doesn't gel, you're not going to keep contributing. So, because this system is still new, it seems like we have a window here to succeed on the transfer and NIL front, and if we have a couple years of disappointment, that funding might diminish. Maybe a future new coach opens it back up with optimism. But I would guess it would be like any investor situation -- money trickles in, and it pours out.

In your post before the one quoted here, you use the words chemistry and head case. This article does not say anything like that. As others have mentioned, with the new(er) talent in the backcourt, he was facing reduced time. Lloyd might not have been disappointed Krissa left given it opened up a scholarship and playing time for new players much like how BU likely felt when Podz chose to transfer. But no indication that Krissa was a locker room problem just as there wasn’t with Podz.

For #2 while possible, when the Yankees sign a guy for $200MM and it doesn’t work out, they still spend the next year. If our base has a commitment to winning above all else (they seem to in basketball), I think the money will be there. And if Brad can’t get it done with these guys, they’ll find someone who can he won’t have 10 years of this.

This is also irrational sports, these guys obviously bleed Illinois. They’re not taking their funds to Michigan State because it’s a better return on the dollars.

You may remember a guy named Dee Brown

Douglas was before my day, but he was impressive: 9.4 ppg, 5.9 apg, 2.7 topg, 2.7 rpg, 46% FG, 25% 3pt
Dee: 12 ppg, 5 apg, 1.9 topg, 3.7 rpg, 43% FG, 33% 3pt
Lol, I remember Dee. I also remember Steve Lainter. He is a great example of why a solid point guard is so vital. The 79 team was undefeated and beat Magic when I was in High School. After Steve was injured the 16-0 was not the same and didn't make the NCAAs.

There is a readily available video of coach Lloyd talking about how KK was an addition from a chemistry standpoint...

Well somebody was already willing to pay several $100k for that car.
I don't know where we are at, but it sounds like we are not getting involved.

No need to start the "we didn't want him, or he is a terrible teammate" BS.

He would likely make us better but what that translates to is hard to quantify.

12-8 vs 11-9?
24- 8 vs 21-11?
5 seed vs 7 seed?
S16 vs R32?

If Harmon is coming I am more comfortable with what we have in terms of ball handlers/PG committee.
If we get Toussaint the above better scenarios are easily within reach.

With Williams docommiting i fully expect to add someone. I wish they would pursue Paul or Kiirsa. However the either West Virginia guard would do.
