Yikes.
A 2 week suspension in the middle of summer for Fitzgerald is pretty pathetic. It's his program and if this happened as many times as it appears he would have known about it. Guys talk at practice, in the weight room, and when they travel. One way or another this would have made its way to him.

If this story escalates I would imagine it would put the people who handed him the light punishment on the chopping block too.

Fitz says he started a Big Brother program but from the article it was a group of upper class men doing the "CarWash" on Freshmen.

I hope Illinois has training and policies to strictly prohibit hazing especially sexual harassment type hazing. Similar issues have occurred at high schools and other colleges.

I suspect in these instances the first punishment is a trial balloon. You need a "wait and see" period. You intentionally dropped the suspension on a Friday to lower the impact. Then you have to wait to see the fallout. If the story gets traction, the next punishment is rolled out.

After today, the story doesn't just have traction, it has momentum. This isn't going away. That story was explosive and shocking.

that's the one you picked up on? I found myself questioning, which person is the one being hazed in these scenarios? Usually hazing is making Fr do all the grunt work, making them serve you food, making them do something embarrassing, maybe roughing them up a bit, but this stuff is uhhh......different.

This letter reads as their is truth to the allegations just not "as bad". Also that they occurred but Fitz had no knowledge. If I'm a recruits parent I'm looking for a university with a FamILLy atmosphere.

I’m not sure this letter is helping.

Yes, there was dry humping and nude car washes but you people are taking it totally out of context!

And anyway, our head coach was checked out and had no clue about any of this so he’s the last one you should be holding accountable.

In sum, as representatives of the university football program, please respect our privacy.

Sincerely, the ENTIRE Northwestern football team (so signed by all, under penalty of retaliatory dry humping)

Nice job guys. That ought to put an end to that.
