... and gloat to/console his neighbors.

Hopefully this puts to rest that he would go to Iowa! Illini Football from the 1990s on was like a strong man that had a disease, and Iowa football was like a weak man that did not have that disease ... yes, you'd rather be Iowa during that timeframe, but guess what?? We're cured! And this is as good of a place to build a program as anywhere else.
Awesome hire by JW!

As I've occasionally noted on the Board, when I left campus in August 1990 if someone had told me that Wisconsin football would be in the Rose bowl in four seasons and the Final Four in ten, I would have bet an astronomical sum against it as easy money. It was inconceivable at the time.

Good thing I was a newly-minted graduate with ~ zero net worth. ;)

What the new AD (ex-Miller brewing marketing exec, IIRC) did via hiring Alvarez and promoting Dick Bennett spurred the greatest BT program turnaround in my lifetime. Wisconsin fans owe everything to that AD and Donna Shalala, who hired him.
Same....I remember early on in his tenure Alvarez was beating us for top in state recruits when he really had nothing to sell other than his vision.

If you just look at football, Iowa under Fry and Purdue under Tiller had similar type turnarounds. Hopefully we can repeat it with BB at the helm

Now, new season ticket holders are probably disproportionately from that population of fans who bought single game tickets last year, but not ALL of them, right?? While we no-doubt lost some "single" fans that converted into the season ticket population, one has to figure that such a huge increase in season ticket sales will at least translate to the type of excitement that adds more "single" fans and new fans.

Ha, yes...I am one of those single game ticket buyers last year that was cannibalized into a season ticket holder this season. That said, having a healthy season ticket holder base is the most important factor in having consistently solid attendance numbers.

P.S. Are you just assuming there will be now flash sales or anything this year? I hope the DIA realizes how invaluable of an opportunity it is to showcase the stadium, town and program for Big Noon Kickoff vs. Penn State ... if there are a substantial number of tickets unsold (especially among students) for this one by Week 2, they need to be pulling out all of the stops to fill the place up!

I am going off of all the DIA statements and literature "guaranteeing" that tickets will never be cheaper than they are right now in the preseason sale. Last year they caught flack for selling tickets at a higher price preseason and then undercutting their own pricing the week of the game. They were incentivizing people to wait until the last minute to purchase. They wanted to flip that around this year and incentive people to buy early, so if there are any flash sales during the season, it will be at or above the price the tickets are currently.

Purdue was QB U. for years until Fred Akers showed up from Texas, installed the option, and gifted us Jeff George. Agreed that Tiller and Fry worked miracles (Fry in particular) in football but Wisconsin's entire athletic program (excl hockey) was dead and buried when Shalala hired the new AD. Complete resurrection and ascension.

Also... am completely digging JW's Cheshire cat grin:

I'm not trying to be dramatic but I think adding Leonhard adds at least one, if not two wins to our total this season. He's going to see something on film that takes a competitive game to an easy win

Jeez ok Purdue is apparently one of the NBC darlings along with Wisconsin, and Michigan State. We will get there I guess, hopefully after this year...

Other than Big Noon Saturday on Fox vs. Penn State, I guess the Wisconsin game might be our only shot at hosting on Fox or CBS. If Penn State vs. Ohio State is on Big Noon Saturday, then I guess we have a decent chance of getting a CBS game that day? But maybe with all of the other big time games happening maybe CBS is covering the SEC.

Also I HATE having to go play a night game at Purdue.

I'll fess up to being a skeptic. I don't think I was totally against it, but I was somewhat underwhelmed. In fairness, I think he's grown tremendously as a coach and person, which is saying a lot considering his coaching chops were real solid.
In seeing his coaching from afar, the emphasis was on the controversial and negative. I was worried about perceived oafish behavior at Arkansas. But, I also had confidence that JW would be direct and grill BB about all things and make a wise, informed decision.

He did.

My initial reaction was wrong.

Put the orange tinted glasses on!

We're 4-0 going to play a 1-3 Purdue team. Altmeyer is throwing darts, the defense is flying around, and our fanbase is completely bought in. We blow out a below average Purdue team, on primetime national TV, with A LOT of orange in the stadium.

Sounds good to me!

That’s a heavy dose of a Michigan State team that was 5-7 last year and missed a bowl.

I hope NBC viewers are really big fans of players faking injuries to get unofficial time-outs when the defense is gassed and reeling because they’re going to be seeing a lot of that.

I'll be there in Ross-Ade. Jacked for a prime-time night game. Can't wait.

Ugh I wish I didn't remember that from last year. What a despicable team they are.

In the uniform thread, I suggested we save the O/W/W look on the road that Bielema seems to love for the Purdue game, as I predicted it would be a night game and that Purdue would try to do a blackout theme under the lights. Looks like the night game part is correct so far!

Walk-on kicker Will McManus no longer listed on the roster with OL Tommy Cronin the same.

One player listed will not be joining the team, per BB talking to the media. Wouldn't reveal who they couldn't/didn't get in? Why the secret and why list them on the roster? Will Leys? No clue if that's who it is but I can't figure out why the newcomer would be listed on the roster when if fact, they aren't on the team, other than BB trying to hide a hole? Although that doesn't seem logical either so, I have no idea.

My point is, BB can get creative and create a role for Leonard that spans both offense and defense - You can call it whatever you want to, but if it's for enough money and under a HC that he trusts that will create opportunities for a HC job after a year, that would be pretty appealing I would think. I don't think Leonard would want just a DC job either, he can get that anywhere. So, better to move Kane into the DC job and create something new for Leonard
What did I just read?

This is exactly the role BB just hired Leonard for
