I shook Larry Birds hand once...and told him to keep his elbow under the ball on his jumper
Larry Bird GIF by Boston Celtics
I once defended on a 3 on 2 break with Kurt Rambis and when I switched off the ball handler to take the faster guy coming down the wing Kurt gave me the "what are you doing?" look followed by a "My bad" reaction when he realized I made the correct play. Playground ball. Kurt was in his 40s and we were running against his high school aged boys.

He has better ball skills right now than Freeman who Iowa just brought in.
Yes, he needs to develop his body.
They all do.

There is a place for him.
The recent trend of taking plus athletes who have very limited skills and hoping they learn how to shoot is not a winning strategy.
Seems to me that he is closer to a Hawk than a Lieb. Dainja, Hansberry, and Johnson should cover next year which gives him two years of development. Trust BU more than journalists and he is in a completely different place than when he took Lieb. Hope he has a chip on his shoulder.

I played with Mike Price a number of times on campus and he'd take the 4 worst guys (usually included me) and smoke the other team even if they had several scholarship players. He was a stud!

Drafted high but never made it big in the pros.

Great guy and personality...and from Indiana too! Not sure why he's never mentioned among the best Illini...

I mention him. I think he and Randy Crews were in Combes last recruiting class.

Underwood’s Bill Cole?
Not even close.

Cole's dad played football here at something like 6-7 270. He had weighed around 205 in high school. He grandfather was an Illini too. Cole was 6-9 215 with decent skills. He was an obvious legacy take, and you take Hummel too. No reason you can't take both. Yet, after Cole committed, Bruce Weber inexplicably stopped recruiting Hummel. Cole gets heat for Weber's poor decisions.

There is some more back story there, but probably best to let it be. I will say an insider who gets paid for his opinion said Cole probably should have gone to Wisconsin.
