I'm really rooting for BB to be successful, but with the exception of Walters, his coordinator hires have been rough (I'm trying to be kind here). Is it too much to ask to be clearly better than a team like FAU at home? Happy with the win, but it's hard to find 4 more in the B10. Over 500 yards and we scored 23 points to win by 6, unacceptable. Not ready to play and dig a 1st qtr 0-10 hole to FAU, unacceptable. Line play is beyond weak. I don't get it, we have pieces, but we are never ready to play and constantly shoot ourselves in the foot with dumb penalties. The level of coaching has to be better and match the investment being made.

And no, I'm not calling for BB's head. Not even close. But changes have to be made to our approach on both lines and an offensive identity has to be established. What is Lunney trying to establish? We finally started running after we had worn down their defensive line a bit, but we have to be able to pound the ball against teams like this and avoid constant pressure on our qb early in games.

I'll be watching next week and hoping some of these things are addressed. Go Illini!

Hard to say what would be more painful. Watching a highlight reel of our worst plays from this game, or taking out my own appendix by candlelight with a warm spoon. Hmmm...pass me the spoon please.
Still glad the Illini escaped today with a win against the season's weakest opponent.

FAU played Clemson tough last week so we shouldn't be surprised by their effort. A hard fought win. Payback for Purdue won't be easy but I'm looking forward to the game!!!!
They were down 34-0 last week… at half….

FAU has lost at Illinois, at Clemson, and vs. Ohio (who won at Iowa State). I do not think they are a terrible team.

Before their last drive of the game FAU had ~250 yards total offense and 10 points. Granted, we had a bad possession on D.

We gained ~500 yards total offense.

McCray comes alive, perhaps.
Altmeyer/Williams is nice.
Robertson was good.

Next week is huge.

A win IS a win , no matter how you get there................

We looked terrible in the first quarter,,,,( I see a pattern happening )........
I. Williams with 120 receiving yards...............
P. Bryant with 85 receiving yards ................
L. Altmyer with over 300 passing yards
Laughery and Feagin with very good games .......
Feagin showed some smarts with the lay down instead of going in for his 1st TD as an Illini.........High FB IQ.......
Laughery with some nifty moves and his first Illini TD.................
Thank the Ancients for so many backup players on defense coming through bigtime...........
Wester for FAU was a load.....maybe the best wide receiver we see this year
53,000 + tickets sold....................

They may have played Clemson tough, but the scoreboard sure didn't show it. Even with the +25 spread they lost by 9.

A win is a win, but the Illini need to start cutting down self-inflicted wounds, otherwise this team won't make it to 6 wins.

This game didn’t exactly fill me with confidence for the rest of the season.

Poor OL play will doom this team to a 6-6 ceiling. No run game to rely on and mediocre pass protection. FAU is not a cupcake they are decent but BB and staff need to wake up asap and get this team ready to play at kickoff and not when already down a couple of scores. Saving grace is the rest of the B1G West is almost as mediocre as we are. Key word being almost. I don't like our chances at Purdue TBH.

Let's now rest up and get healed ahead of next weekend's trip to West Lafayette.

Strength of Schedule still looking strong:
4-0 Kansas
3-1 Toledo
3-0 Penn State (favored at home tonight vs. Iowa in a white-out)

And FAU has losses to Clemson, Illinois and 4-1 Ohio.

edit: P. Bryant with 38 yards..........................

How many times have we not kicked a FG and went for the 1st down in the red zone and failed.............seems like every game and I hope it doesn't bite us down the road......

Somethings wrong with this team that goes beyond the skills of the players. There appears to be a lack of chemistry (leadership?) on this team. You'd think
returning players like Adam's, Newton, etc. would provide that leadership. Perhaps they are already thinking ahead and have one foot out the door. Perhaps there is a lack of player buy in with certain coaches or offensive or defensive philosophies. We should not be playing this poorly. Would like to see comments from Indy and 0440.
