I can see that being the first televised clash between ranked teams. Exhibition or not there will be a lot of people interested in the outcome.

I agree that $80 is steep for an exhibition and not everyone can afford that if you're talking about bringing the family.
However, there are entire sections of C section with $40 tickets... basically from 10:00 to 2:00 on a clockface, plus 5:00 and 7:00 areas.
Reminder to the students: This is included in your student tickets. (According to the Gazette.)

No, I understand. I wish the tickets were $10. I also wish I were retired on a beach right now. Someone who can't pay $40 to see Illinois play Kansas, even in an exhibition game, probably isn't going to be going to many games this year, period.
I'll be there Sunday. Can't wait to see some basketball this year, and just want the guys to look good. Even taking the Bill Self chip off my shoulder for the night for charity.

I wish Champaign were as close to Chicago as Lawrence is to KC. In terms of time on the road, Lawrence is basically as far as Naperville. Sellouts would never be a problem if that were the case, and for basketball they really aren't a problem anyway.
Edit: As I said this, I realized ILL and Penn st really are the most remote teams in the B1G, as it pertains to proximity to a major city.

I have no insight as to how BU will approach the game, but I’d actually like him to approach it similar to the Ottawa game. Sure a win would be nice, but I’m most interested in the new — players and position (Ty). Give me the last 3 minutes of first half and last 4-5 minutes of game with your “real” lineup and then plenty of time for the newcomers that typically might not be part of crunch time during rest of game. I do think BU will approach this more like a real game than the Ottawa game, but I hope not too much.
Yearly game trading home venues would be great.

I will be there with my nephew. It will be fun seeing the Illini compete against a highly-ranked non-conference opponent.
Both coaches are going to treat this like a standard exhibition game. Everyone will get playing time, they're going to try multiple combinations, running various sets.... probably very basic ones. I wouldn't be surprised, whatsoever, if the coaches met before the game and discussed exactly what they're looking to work on and play the game accordingly. Sure, they players are going to be competitive, but the outcome doesn't matter, the score doesn't matter and the stats don't matter.
The charitable donations matter and getting in some good practice time in versus guys in a different uniform matter.
It's a charity game and a game for the freshmen and some of the bench guys to show out and for the high leverage guys to sharpen their skills for 20 minutes.

I didnt mind paying 93.75ea for 2 tickets but then to see seats 2 rows behnd me for $40 is bs... It is Kansas and Self so I will be ok.
But if it happens again in my lifetime I will just watch on TV

Feel the same. I bought the pre-sale I-Fund/season ticket holder link for the $80 tickets, and ended up with the worst 200 level seats I’ll have ever sat in (“but it’s behind the Illini bench!”
). Wish I would have just waited and got better seats in the corners for $40.In light of the new football uniforms, any new unis on the horizon for hoops ?

What you’re complaining about is simply the free market. Are you upset about paying $2.00 for a can of beans when you later see them selling for fifty cents in a clearance sale? Merchants price high, sell what they can, then slash the price when they have excess inventory. Clearly $80 for the “cheap seats” wasn’t what the market was willing to pay.
Right but here is the deal. The athletic office charges their rack rates during the off season and there are a number of people that pay that amount for tickets. But then, closer to the game, when there are tickets remaining and sales have hit a wall, they offer special deals to sell the remaining tickets. It's for that reason, that if and when I buy tickets to events, I will do so at the last minute and catch the reduction in price. A lot of people are catching on to this. In the long run, this is going to hurt the athletic office Ticket sales will be sluggish until the closer to the event.
Dynamic pricing is becoming common. Wikipedia has a good summary if you're interested in how it re-emerged starting with airlines several decades ago and has made its way all the way down to Uber drivers. It's not going away, and merchants are pretty good at modeling how to adjust pricing to account for supply and timing.
FWLIW, I buy late as well. I used to go to the stadium and buy after-market after the tip-off when prices would plummet. No one wants to be left holding a ticket that late. I think most platforms don't even allow that anymore.
