lets win this so we aren't competing for bowl eligibility against Northwestern, they looked quite good against the badgers today
The good news is Iowa can't score.Iowa is currently shutting out Rutgers 22 - 0. I don't care who starts at QB1 next week. I want to know what Lunney Jr. has in is tool box to score points on Iowa's defense.
Agree with you, and we could even also mix both of them in to the game plan. Put Luke in for his ability to scramble if Iowa is able to pressure Paddock or he looks shaky after the first few series for whatever reason. Hopefully he won't, but let's get creative and give their D a lot to prepare for and force them to play against two different styles maybe.I think Coach B will do the smart thing. Hold his cards very close this week, make Iowa prepare for both Luke and John (and Mathew and Mark too if we had them), then give John most of the reps in practice and the starting qb job vs the Hawkeyes. I like Luke, but John just makes our offense so much more explosive with his quick release, ability to find the open man, and accuracy on short, midrange, and long passes. Preparing for two very different styles of play is much tougher (Luke being the better runner), and the Illini need any edge they can get against the best defense we will face this year.
Jehosephat too. Don't forget, he invented the jump pass. And Isaiah(s), and Ezekiel, and Jeremiah.......
He did?The only reason I can see starting Altmyer is his legs. Paddock killed you a few times today cause he had little mobility. Luke gives you that. Also we might have the need for a QB who's running around a lot unless we think our OL will dominate in pass protection against Iowa's vaunted defense. I think the bigger question marks are we need feagin back and at mostly full health and Bryant too. We need all the weapons we can get against Iowa. Love and Isiah are great of course but we need everyone.
I may be wrong in interpreting today's game, but I can only think of one literal thing Paddock did wrong today: that god awful interception (which I feel was a poor throw rather than a poor judgement). His lack of mobility didn't affect anything. The only reason I can see starting Altmyer is his legs. Paddock killed you a few times today cause he had little mobility. Luke gives you that. Yes I will be there.Anyone going to this game?
What is their traditional vistor's section?Yes I will be there.
Sorry don’t know. I will be in 128.What is their traditional vistor's section?
No no no. Next year for Luke. Roll with the hot hand right now. That would be foolish.
There is absolutely no way...NO WAY...you take a hand this hot out until it is no longer hot. John Paddock has to decide when this magnificent orange joy ride is over.
Taking him out now would be the worst coaching decision in the history of coaching decisions.
It's on the table. My best friend is an Iowa guy, he just floated a road tripAnyone going to this game?
If our defense doesn't show up again like today they will. The good news is Iowa can't score.
YepAnyone going to this game?
Old saying in coaching 101 “ If it ain’t broke then don’t fix it”.Altmyer will start
I agree 100%. Perfect situation for BB. Start Paddock, which the recent history and fandom dictate you do. If it doesn't go well, insert LA. Doing the opposite just would not be a good look on the coaching staffs part if it doesn't work out. In my mind, it's a no-brainer!Tricky spot for BB.
Have the old adage of no player should lose his job due to injury on one side, as well as the fact I wouldn't doubt there was some kind of, "You're our guy." deal with LA when he came over.
And on the other side, have the fact that Paddock is playing better than LA has or could at this point, and the team isn't blind. Not sure what kind of message it sends the team if you start LA. In my mind, it makes it seem like the best players won't play necessarily, and that's not very inspiring/good for recruiting. He could lean on the injury thing though if called into question. If I was LA, I would go to BB and tell him to start Paddock - I think the team would really respect him for it, and it's not like Paddock is going to be here next year - feel like it would be a lot more problematic of a situation if he was (in regards to who to start next week). If Paddock bombs in the first half, could pop LA in and call the experiment over.
You kind of have to be honest with yourself when a dude leads a game winning drive and follows it up with a 500+ yard win...
Letting them score was the right decision. It didn’t work out as Tepper had hoped, but it was definitely the right call.Tepper admits letting U score on final drive
and Todd Zolecki Illinois football coach Lou Tepper has coached college football in some capacity since 1967. After all that time, Tepper picked a critical moment in the Illini’s 23-21 loss to the Gophers on Saturday to try something new. “I did something I’ve never done in coaching,” Tepper...mndaily.com
