FAU is, quite possibly, the best team ever assembled

But Marcus, Quincy and Harmon are all shooting below their career averages too so we will get some positive reversion there.

I think we are a better team if we have 5 guys at 35% instead of 2 at 45 and 3 at 25.
I’d take that in a heartbeat.

Honestly, after listening to the ILLINI Inquirer podcast with the FAU beat writer, I'd love to wipe this team off the floor. So smug. It doesn't matter at all but most interview subjects on the show are at least a bit balanced and this guy is a total homer. No attention to the fact that we beat Kansas and that our only loss was to Marquette. Let's GO!

Are you talking about Rob Dauster?

That's not a FAU beat writer. He owns his own college basketball media company. (Or is a major part of it.)

Was just going to say he’s a national guy but I agree! Seemed very dismissive of the Illini. FAU may win the game tomorrow but there are a bunch of interesting matchups he could have talked about but clearly didn’t do his homework. We are spoiled with Werner and Piper.

Come on. We did NOT beat Kansas.

Thanks for the clarification. That's what I get for multitasking being a dad. Either way, I disagree with his homerism and his apparently uneducated take on our team which was my point. Most people they have on are neither of those

This is a pretty good game preview.

Much better. My only qualm with this one is they overlooked the fact that Goldin only plays 22 MPG. Their primary backup big is Rosado who plays about 15 MPG and is a 6’8 250 lb bully. But I don’t think he can bully Dain who could feast in those 15 minutes. This could be a Dain game.

I think this game will be decided by the Coleman vs Goldin matchup. Coleman played great against Dickinson, need something similar to get this win. I worry about crunch time with no PG, we crumbled against Marquette late. Hopefully we’ve grown. This is gonna be two teams of grown men

Just shows you how hard it is for national media to understand what’s going on at all times across all programs, and the low level of information they have when creating their takes about programs like ours.

He certainly didn’t “Lou Holtz” his team, did he?

The one area Illinois needs to be careful defensively, which hasn’t been discussed already, is transition defense. Marquette scored a lot of points in transition after Shannon missed layups where he fell down resulting in 3 or 4 on 5 transition baskets. FAU has this same mentality. So it’s important to stay upright when shooting and get back on defense.

Am I just old and not remembering the past or do basketball players fall down a lot more than they did 20 years ago?

I just didn't hear it that way. Werner asked him specifically about what Dauster saw in FAU because they played in a tournament that was hosted by his company (Field of 68). Dauster is a hair arrogant in the way he speaks, from my perspective, but I don't recall him really being asked for the Illini perspective as much.
